Is it David in the picture? Over dinner she asks where Daddy got the idea.

Victoria is not surprised that David not only knows his way around the secret passages, but that he also knows what had happened in them last night. He probably had all sorts of hiding places. "Where did you find those?" she asks him. "I don't think they sell those old back issues any more, and they certainly wouldn't be in such condition if they did. They must have been in this house for quite a long time."

The child in the painting definitely looks like David Collins. In response to her inquiry, Sam says "It just popped into my head. Never seen that kid before. Guess it's what you call artistic inspiration. With a little help from my old friend Jack Daniels."

"Oh, these just came out of my collection. I keep it hidden real good. I guess some seawater got into 'em. That's OK. I've read 'em about a jillion times."

"Oh, you kept them in the cave," says Victoria, who knows David already knows she was in there. "What else is in there? Is there pirate treasure or anything like that?"

"Ah, that's just a bunch of baloney. I just keep my stuff there, so nobody messes with it. Hey, how didja know about the cave, anyway?"

"I found it last night, from the secret passages," says Victoria.

"Aw, jeez, that's supposed to be a secret, or it's no fun anymore. You won't tell nobody, will ya?"

"No, it will be our secret now," says Victoria. "A secret's only really fun if you can share it with someone. Just be careful in there. That slope's very slippery."
