Clues!

When the Provost of Britain’s most prestigious college for boys is bequeathed a parcel of land in a rural backwater he’s never even heard of, the venerable old man calls upon a select number of friends to look into the matter.

Why was Dr. Preedy mentioned in the last will and testament of the Squire of Wergyn Hall? Where are the ruins of St. Wergyn’s church, of which he has become the unexpected custodian? What is the truth behind the strange tales and legends that haunt the benighted countryside?

Set in the 1900s, The Provost of Eton’s Inheritance leads the investigators from the rarefied air of the college cloisters to the wilds of the English Marches, in this 7th edition Call of Cthulhu adventure inspired by one of H.P. Lovecraft literary heroes: the master of the ghost story, M.R. James.

Please use this thread to collate any clues you have uncovered, discuss theories and generally try to make sense of what is going on.

I don't know all the specifics of the contents, Mr. Handy, but I was told this in the game thread.

"Flicking through its pages reveals the addresses of the village notables, from the landlord of the inn to the local butcher, through the vicar and even the gamekeeper of Wergyn Hall.

Eccentric she may be, but Miss Coates is clearly a meticulous record keeper."

Mr. Lewis, being bored, made an exact copy of her notes.

Do we need to go and see O'Kent? He seems fairly central to what's going on. Is his address in the copy of Miss Coates' address book?

Yes, we need to see him, but his land is surrounded by the Squire's land, so we need to see the gamekeeper first and have him guide us there.

Yes, it is listed as 'O'Kent's Cottage, The Boundary, Wergyn Estate.'

I don't suppose the Keeper built a connecting tunnel across the Squire's land? Or perhaps a hidden pathway through trackless land? :D

Of course, what you really need is someone with an intimate knowledge of the Wergyn estate... Maybe the gamekeeper, whose house you are walking towards at the moment?

So what else have you discovered since your summons to Eton?

We seem to be dealing with some long-lived spirit, from at least the Norman times...

HJLIII would like to mention that strange dreams could be a result of mental fatigue or perhaps a toxin in the system. :P

What have these dreams been about? Any particular theme?

(Apologies if I’m being condescending, I don’t want you to miss any useful clues)

My dreams featured flapping cloth and a beckoning skeletal figure.

Well, Grigori had a dream of a malicious cold entity opposing a life-giving fire, overlooked by a benevolent saint in a stained glass window...

Ok folks I'll be starting a new thread soon. Unless you have other plans I'll have you heading towards Sam the gamekeeper and the Wergyn Estate.

You can all make a luck roll beforehand though. I suspect you'll need it...
