4 Genius Loci: Renewed Interest

Doors to Darkness yawn open to reveal three hair raising tales!

Genius Loci - Not all is well at the Kirby State Lunatic Asylum and it’s down to the investigators to heed a friend in need’s cry.
Ties That Bind - Strange rock formations have been found in Mrs. Carrington’s prized fountain. But these are like no rocks seen before!
None More Black - The death of a Rice University student leads the investigators into unsavoury neighbourhoods and dark business dealings.

Are you the Dreamer or are you the Dream? Shadows flitting at the corners of your vision, haunting laughter just outside your window and inhuman, eerie sounds in the middle of the night, all of this and more await the unwary once you open the Doors to Darkness!

Jimmy had taken a step forward and appeared as if he was about to rough up the strange man when he suddenly paused. He felt a little strange.

As soon as Coach finishes wisecracking he looks up again at the crazy guy in front of him. Eyes widening in terror he sees the figure for what it really is.

Mouth agape, he takes one, two, three more steps back.

"Sweet Jesus!" He yells.

OOC,I think so, I've been assuming that Carl and Joseph rejoined the others. Is that correct Umbral?

As far as I read the posts, everyone is there.
A failure on the roll in this case means you don't have a clue as to what you are seeing. The Illusion has not been penetrated. Ignorance is bliss.
A pass on the roll indicates that you have seen through the façade. You are in full view of the Supernatural and full understanding of the implications to your own psyche and worldview. A small piece of your Sanity is given up to keep the whole intact.

OOC: This is an experiment on the flexibility of the system. The perspective of reality and the supernatural being blurred by forces of corruption and choas. A little unexpected. Things aren't always as it seems.
I won't do this again this adventure.

OOC:   Hey no worries - experimentation is good. I'm just not used to losing SAN after passing a test, but it's all good: don't mind being thrown a curve ball as a player :D

"What the hell's the matter, Coach?"

"T-that thing!"

Coach stumbles backwards, fumbling for 'Betsie'. He holds it out at arms length, pointing it at the creature as if the baseball bat puts a thousand miles of distance between him and it.

"Can't you see? Squatting on what's left of the stone! A black demon! We gotta get away guys, we gotta get away!"

“Easy Coach!” says Joseph. The older man is obviously spooked by something though.

“Let’s get out of here” he says, gently taking Coach by the arm.

Coach needs no persuading and allows himself to be led away, staring in horror at the creature as he retreats.

Jimmy the Chin's already fair complexion appeared almost devoid of all pigmentation whatsoever. What was more, the gangster had seemed to lose all interest in further threatening the vagrant. In fact, he really seemed quite keen on hightailing it out of there. He signaled to his driver to prepare the car for a quick departure.

"You'll get no argument from me. Let's get out of here." he said to the others.

When they are all away Joseph turns to Jimmy and The Coach, a mystified look on his face.

"Sorry but what the hell is up with you two? You both looked like you saw a ghost or something. What was it about that old guy?"

He looks directly at The Coach, trying to get a read on him.

Once they are out of sight of the creature, Coach calms down a little.

"Didn't you see? It was as if... I dunno... as if my cap had been pulled from over my eyes and I could see what was really there. Not some old guy sat on a rock, but some horrible... demon I guess - leering at me from a fragment of that big stone we've been reading about. It felt as if there was - and this is crazy I know - magic there once."

He shakes his head as if waking up from a weird dream.

"Maybe I'm gonna wind up in that nuthouse, but that's what I saw - a monster squatting on a broken magic stone. And, to make myself sound even crazier, I think we need to put that stone back together again."

"Did you see it Jimmy?"

Jimmy the Chin urged the others into the back of his car and then hastily seated himself directly behind the driver. He glanced out the back window and was relieved to see that the creature hadn't followed them. Muldoon had filled the others in on what he had seen, what they both had seen, but the gangster wasn't ready to believe it just yet.

"I ain't sure what I saw, Coach. All I know right now is that I need a stiff drink." he replied.

"I didn't see it," says Carl, getting in the car. "Do we know what happened to the pieces of the stone disc after it was broken? Maybe we could put them back together with cement, but would that actually work?"

Joseph is mystified. "What the hell is the stone for anyway? It's obviously important, but we need to know more about it."
