2 Genius Loci: Visiting Kirby State Hospital

Doors to Darkness yawn open to reveal three hair raising tales!

Genius Loci - Not all is well at the Kirby State Lunatic Asylum and it’s down to the investigators to heed a friend in need’s cry.
Ties That Bind - Strange rock formations have been found in Mrs. Carrington’s prized fountain. But these are like no rocks seen before!
None More Black - The death of a Rice University student leads the investigators into unsavoury neighbourhoods and dark business dealings.

Are you the Dreamer or are you the Dream? Shadows flitting at the corners of your vision, haunting laughter just outside your window and inhuman, eerie sounds in the middle of the night, all of this and more await the unwary once you open the Doors to Darkness!

Jimmy filled his pockets with a few bottles of medication. He didn't really have a heist in mind when they discussed the angle this morning. At least the Wheel had his briefcase and was able to adapt to the situation. He then pulled his Colt 45 from its holster, gave the cylinder a spin and quickly returned it to where it had been.

"Leave it. If only a bit is missin', then they may suspect one of the staff. That's what we want. Make sure everything else is put back how we found it." he replied.

Coach glowers at the two orderlies, but despite the urge to wipe the smirk off their faces, they do have a point. How would he feel if a bunch of guys showed up at practice and demanded to take one of his team away?

And besides, would brawling with them in the middle of an asylum really be the wisest thing to do? Sure, perhaps the three of them could take them, but it wouldn't take long for more orderlies to come running.

"Okay, I ain't gonna argue with you," he sighs. "But remember we've taken photos, so if anything happens to him when we get back we're holding you guys responsible."

He turns to the others, shrugging apologetically.

"What we gonna do? Start a fight in a nuthouse? Let's speak to the doc and then go see this other guy."

"Making threats of violence against a Texas Ranger is not a bright move," says Carl. "I'll go with you to see Dr. Berger, but all of this is going in my report, and I want both of your names. If anything happens to that patient while we're gone, you will answer for it. Everything will be reported after we leave. And just so we're clear, if I do not leave in a reasonable amount of time, the Rangers know that I've come here and why."

The orderlies lead you downstairs, and across the facility. During the walk downstairs, one of you feels a hand and a push, down the stairs!

Both the Ranger and Coach stumble to the landing below and land on each other, looking behind them, they see no one who could have done it...

OOC,Can I spend 9 Luck points to make my Dexterity roll a success and avoid the fall? Also, I know that in 6th edition, you can reduce the damage from falling by 1D6 if you succeed at a Jump roll.

Yes you can spend the Luck or Push the DEX roll (What action are you taking to push the situation?), or Reduce the damage by half on a HARD Jump roll since it was nothing you could prepare for.

Jimmy gave the room one last look over then moved back towards the exit. He paused before stepping out into the hallway, put his ear against the door and listened for any signs of activity in the area beyond, but heard nothing.

"Alright, we had better beat it." he said, gave the brim of his hat a slight downward tug, and added, "You remember the way back out, Solomon, yeah?"

"Yeah, he shoved me too," says Carl, making his way carefully downstairs. "I didn't even see him." Carl helps Coach and does what he can to treat his bruises. "Luckily, it doesn't look too bad. You should be able to walk it off."

The three investigators make it to Dr. Berger's office.
"Absolutely not. He has proven himself to be a danger to himself and others. My diagnosis stands for now, he will recieve further treatment and observation. Thank you for your concern. As you see, we are all busy, that is unfortunate, nevertheless I must conclude your visit for now, to be taken up at a later date." At this the Dr. asks the orderlies to show you out.

Jimmy had decided that a stealthy exit from the facility would be the most prudent one, but if spotted, he was fully prepared to improvise.

"I know the law," says Carl, "and the law says that when someone checks himself into an institution such as this, he has the legal right to check himself out, and you have no legal right to detain him. I also haven't finished my inspection yet, but I can tell you that I've already seen enough that I can have this place shut down and all the patients sent to other institutions that don't have these kinds of safety violations. The injuries and maiming of both patients and staff alone are plenty, and I'm sure that's only the tip of the iceberg."
