“That doesn’t leave us much time” says Joseph. “Certainly not enough time to commission a new stone or repair the old one. It was obviously keeping this 'power' McBride spoke of in check. I can hardly believe any of it, but something isn’t right at that place.”

"You're damn right." Coach strokes 'Betsie'. "We gotta go in mob-handed and deal with this crazy crap before we're too late."

"It's not important whether we believe this power is real," says Carl. "The point is that Berger and his people believe it, and they're planning to kill Larry because of it."

"Do we have enough evidence now to get the law involved?" Joseph asks Carl.

"All we have that we didn't have before is the word of an escapee from a mental institution," says Carl.

"Hardly concrete evidence huh? Like it or not, it's just gonna be us guys."

"We'd better get prepared then" says Joseph.

Jimmy the Chin followed the path of the ongoing conversation as it drifted around among each of his associates. He was growing increasingly more disturbed by a few of the points the others raised, most particularly, that whole bit about there being a mysterious power lurking beneath the asylum. Sure such a thing could explain what he saw a short while ago, but he felt as if he was teetering upon a ledge, one that once fallen from would forever remain out of reach. This was a fall the made man was not sure he wanted to take. Sometimes ignorance truly was bliss.

"What do we uh... know about this stone anyway? You guys been talkin' like it's magic or something." he said.

"I dunno... When I saw that demon thing, I just got the feeling that the stone he was sitting on used to be magic, but it'd gotten kinda busted and the magic had all gone."

Coach shrugs, feeling uncomfortable.

"I guess it's what's left of that disk Dr. Shine wrote of. At any rate, I can't see us getting another one carved before tomorrow night."

"No, but maybe we could get the original stone now that we know where it is," says Carl. "We might be able to put it back together with quick-drying cement."

"Yes, that might work" thinks Joseph. "We should get on it."

You've only seen one piece of the whole stone. You would have to locate the other pieces if they even exist.

"It looks vaguely familiar," says Carl, peering at the stone fragment, "but I don't think I've ever seen it before."

As the disposition of the stone fragments and their recovery came up, Jimmy racked his brain in an attempt to contribute to the effort. Unfortunately, and quite unsurprisingly the gangster had no recollection of anything that may be of use. However, in his business, he understood the benefits of having specialists.

"We don't even know how many pieces the stone was broken into, but someone might. A local historian maybe?" he suggested.

"It don't mean squat to me, so I wouldn't know how to put it together even if we did have all the pieces. All we've got to go on is a photo given to us by a freakin' demon-guy. Yeah we could research, but we're hardly a bunch of Einsteins are we?"

Coach pats 'Betsie' before stowing the bat in his sports bag.

"'The old fashioned way' gets my vote."

It seems as if you will need to have a plan if you decide to rescue anyone from the asylum...

"You sneaked in before, didn't you, Jimmy?" asks Joseph. "You think we could do it again?"

"I already came up with my part in the plan," says Carl. "I can stake out the asylum early so that I'm already there when you arrive."
