Blocking the woman's view of the door with her body, Liz takes a pin from her hair and uses it to try to pick the lock, pretending to be looking at a rack of clothes along the back wall.

"I think they all look very impressive." Lew says as he browses off to the side. If he sees Mary start to go back, he will hold up a piece of clothing and distract her by asking how much it is.

Noticing the woman occasionally glancing at Liz, Tony seeks to keep her focussed on him.
"These are all very good cravats; I just don't know which one to choose. Knowing me I'll end up buying the bally lot! Such a shame you're going out of business. Not much call for fashion around here I assume? What will you and your family do?"
"Movin'," she replies shortly, seemingly in some haste. "Know whatcha want? Gotta do some packin', you know."

With the two men keeping her busy, Mary does not pay any more attention to what's going on in the back, just showing some signs of impatience.

The back of the building has no windows.

The door opens quietly, revealing a dark room, without windows, full of a jumble of large cardboard boxes, preventing a clear view of the interior.

"Oh of course, I mustn't detain you. Sorry, I can be such a muddle-head at times."
"I think I'll choose... Um.."
"Let me think..."
"Um..."
"Yes, I think... This- oh!"
Tony 'accidently' drops the neckties.
"Oh I'm such a silly sausage! Do please forgive me! Tell you what: help me pick the, up and I'll buy them all!"

Liz slips into the room, closes the door quietly behind her, and feels around for a light switch.

While the proprietress is busy picking up the merchandise, Liz runs her hand along the wall, looking for a light switch.
Despite her cat-like eyes, enabling her to make out some details in the dark room, and an innate sense of where things are usually hidden, she fails to locate anything.
Listening closely, she is able to detect a soft sound of breathing coming from somewhere behind the jumble of boxes.

Zara knocks softly on the door - loud enough to be heard from the room beyond, but not enough to reach the shop.

"Ember, is that you?" asks Liz softly. "It's me, Liz. We've met before."

The only response is a sort of shuffling noise, as of something being shifted around.

The only response is a quiet mumbling sound; the words, if any, impossible to make out.

Making one's way through a room full of cardboard boxes, in the dark, isn't the easiest task in the world. Somewhere on the way to the back door, Liz knocks over a box, making quite a bit of noise. While Liz is opening the door, letting in more light -- and, incidentally, revealing the child known as Ember, seemingly asleep on a bare mattress in a corner of the room -- Mary Fletcher rushes inside, alarmed by the sound.
"What do you think you're doin'?" she cries.

Tony follows Mary back into the store, still clutching the neckties.
"Hey, I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation. No doubt Liz was looking for something in particular."
