Hi everybody! Glad to be onboard for this game! If Mr. Handy's touchstone is Curse of the Crimson Altar, I think mine is Dracula AD 1972!

I'd be interested in playing a musician, singer-songwriter, who is heavily into Arthurian myth, Eastern philosophy, new age occult stuff. These leads to dabbling in things they don't understand.

Very nice. Could be a Tortured Artist or a Mystic/Everyman/Everywoman, depending on how you want to play it.

Either way, I think it's possible to connect my character to SunlessNick's pretty easily. And maybe Mr Handy's parapsychologist "studies" the visions of Zara?

Certainly a possibility. I'll come up with some way to get everybody together.

I am open to suggestions, but right now I am toying with the idea of starting this adventure in Venice, California, in 1967 or thereabouts.

For some reason I was sure the game would be set in the UK!

But 1967 California is great too. Haight-Ashbury would be a good option as well.

Edit: Wow, a nice synchronicity! I took the first name that came to my mind, Bill Ferris. Then googled it: William Ferris was a prominent collector of folklore music in the 60s and 70s! https://www.theguardian.com/music/2018/ ... ississippi

Yes, Liz would be glad to help Zara understand her visions and would be fascinated by her precognitive abilities.

I had thought it would be the UK too, but California also works. Liz would be happy to travel anywhere on Earth (or beyond, for that matter).

One of the special abilities of the Cursed Artist class is a local haunt where you can get rest and respite. We could easily have the same one.

One thing I was thinking about when Venice came to mind was the fact that an amusement park known as Pacific Ocean Park closed down near there in 1967.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Ocean_Park

The city of Venice, by 1967, was losing its former status as a place for the elite and becoming a lower class/bohemian area, with beatniks and hippies and the like.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice,_L ... es#Neglect
Los Angeles had neglected Venice so long that, by the 1950s, it had become the "Slum by the Sea." With the exception of new police and fire stations in 1930, the city spent little on improvements after annexation. The city did not pave Trolleyway (Pacific Avenue) until 1954 when county and state funds became available. Low rents for run-down bungalows attracted predominantly European immigrants (including a substantial number of Holocaust survivors) and young counterculture artists, poets, and writers. The Beat Generation hung out at the Gas House on Ocean Front Walk and at Venice West Cafe on Dudley. Police raids were frequent during that era.
As the name suggests, it also has canals! They would be in very bad shape by 1967.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venice_Ca ... c_District
. . . as the automobile gained in popularity, the canals were viewed by many as outdated, and the bulk of the canals were filled in 1929 to create roads. By 1940, the remaining canals had fallen into disrepair, and the sidewalks were condemned by the city. The canal district remained in poor condition for more than 40 years, as numerous proposals to renovate the canals failed due to lack of funding, environmental concerns, and disputes as to who should bear the financial responsibility.

That sounds like an interesting parallel to the Gothic vibe. So, for Zara's local haunt, how about the Sospiri? Named after one of Venice's famous bridges, it was originally upmarket, but is now seedier, haunted by lovers of counterculture?

A reminder that I will be away for four days.

You may wish to have your characters already inside Sospiri when Liz enters, or walk in later, or be somewhere outside, or , for that matter, somewhere else entirely if you prefer.

My internet is being squirrely at the moment, and next Friday is the earliest I can be sure of it working again. In the meantime, I will log in from public places as much as I can, but if you need to make a decision on Zara's actions, do so. In general, she'll try to slow the departure of the vans as much as she can, and warn the others about them as the first chance she gets - she doesn't much care about a threat to a draft office, but the cult have shown a willingness to hurt innocent people - but for the same reason, she'll try to keep as covert as possible, especially while she's alone at the compound.

FYI folks, I thought it’d be fun to explore the ‘playboy’ side of the playboy detective, partly as a response to Tony feeling somewhat rebuffed by Liz during the camping trip (which in itself could lead to some interesting RP). Plus he has the Faithless Lover trait, something I’ve not looked at much.

If he does sleep around, rest assured I’ll keep it clean, but if anyone feels uncomfortable with Tony’s actions and/or what I write then please let me know :)

Not travel, really.

Long story short, I work the graveyard shift seven nights in a row, as a hospital pharmacist. (One of the jobs not subject to business closures.) Then I have seven nights off (unless I fill in for somebody else.) My job requires me to stare at the computer all night long, so that's when I have a chance to post here. In one of life's little ironies, I don't have time to do this at home, given various errands and chores and a houseful of cats and so on.

I can't remember the exact place, but Vicki said to increase an attribute by 1, add the max roll of hit points (rather than rolling), and choose an asset without a corresponding affliction.

Okay, I’m soooo tempted for Tony to ask Lota to join him as an assistant, but I also reckon it’d be a pretty bad idea. Therefore I’m going to roll against his WIS (11). If I fail, he gives in to temptation!

Ok, that’s a pretty emphatic pass, so Tony sees common sense!

I'm going to have to drop out now. I've really enjoyed playing the past two years but my kids are back in full distance learning and both of my parents have cancer and I've been increasingly occupied with real life and don't have as much time to devote to online gaming. Thanks so much for the nostalgic trip back to the 60's Vicki! I'm sure I'll catch up on Tony, Liz and Zara's continuing adventures in my spare time.

I was looking back through some of the old threads, and I got to the bit where we fight the Embalmer's skeletons. There's a post where Zara picks up a piece of rubble to smash some bones with. Only it says rummble - with the two m's - I must have typed m instead of b, and then completely blown fixing it.

The point being, while it's not very Zara, it's still a 60's game, so I'm kind of delighted at the notion of her picking up a bit of rummble!

I've got internet troubles, and I won't be able to log back in until Wednesday at the earliest. Sorry this is coinciding with your week here, Vicki. Have my characters (in each game) act as you see fit.

I’ve levelled up P by adding 1 to his dexterity and giving him a level 1 mad invention (the preternatural effect Nightvision in the form of infrared glasses).

Sorry for the absence everyone.

For levelling up, I've added 1 to Zara's Dexterity (she's done some driving and shooting, so it seemed apt), and the Brave Asset (she's gone by herself into two evil lairs so far). I can't remember - does damage bonus go up too? I also separated Slow and Easily Tired, into two afflictions, just for ease of reading.

At Level Three the typical Damage Bonus (which I keep forgetting about) for most characters would be +1 (like at Level Two.)

Hi folks,

I’m pretty much on radio silence now until after Christmas.

Thanks Victoria for continuing to run this affair (and it’s groovy equivalent); I’m having a great time playing both!

Best wishes to you all for the festive season!
