The Major nodded tightly then stepped out into the corridor. He returned a moment later with the one-armed orderly, who wheeled William somewhat awkwardly back to the ward.

The one-legged serviceman, Carter was back on his bed, lounging and reading a copy of the Wipers Times. Of the French priest, Pombal, there was no sign.

Although William’s back on the ward, I’ll keep you in this thread until the others return.

"Anything interesting happen while I was away?" asks William. "Did the priest recover? He's not here any more."

Carter shrugged, scratching at the stump of his missing leg. ”No idea!I I’ve not been back long myself and he wasn’t here when I returned.”

"Any interesting news in the paper?" asks William.

[Philulhu]

”It’s The Wipers Times,” said Carter. ”Just a bit of fun for us lads in the trenches.” He tossed it onto William’s bed for him to read.

[Mr. Handy]

"This is great!" says William, looking through the paper. "Here's one letter writer named I. P. Freely. Yeah, this could really cheer you up."

Carter laughed at that one. ”What’s happened to your legs?” he asked. ”You was walking around before.”

Our posts seem somehow to have got out of sync. Carter asking about William’s legs should be after IP Freely.

"Dr. Watt happened," says William. "He heard about my strange dream and hooked me up to this electrical device of his that gave me quite a shock. When I recovered, I couldn't walk any more. It should only be temporary, they say. Do yourself a favor. If you have any unusual dreams, don't let him find out about them. You haven't had any, have you?"

It looks like you edited your previous post by mistake instead of quoting it or creating a new one, overwriting what you had before.

”Nah, I sleep like a baby,” said Carter. ”Eight hours, straight through. Not even Jerry shelling or Nurse Ogilvy will wake me up,” he laughed.

His laughter died away and he sat looking thoughtful for a moment. He looked around carefully then leaned forward and said quietly, ”If your legs don’t sort themselves out, I might know someone who can help.” He winked conspiratorially, tapped the side of his nose and lay back on his bed.

Ah, that explains it. I usually use the quote function to carry forward the text colours for the different speakers but hit the edit button instead.

"Thanks," says William. "I'll keep that in mind."

I use the quote function too, usually to carry my character portrait forward. Once I accidentally wiped out someone's created character in progress for a game I was running, but we were able to reconstruct the sheet.
