Ch. 12c. A Walk in the Woods (Lawrence)

The voice on the phone said, "I understand that you are a friend of my son, James. He has gone missing. I require your assistance in bringing him home again...”

A university student has gone missing. Can his friends find out what has happened to James Frazer in 1920s Massachusetts?

That roll was sufficient to beat the creature’s strength in an opposed roll.

As the creature tried to put Lawrence in the ambulance an immediate flaw in Brophy’s plan became apparent - namely that the creature had to try to lift Lawrence up to the height of the vehicle floor. As it leaned back to try to lift him off the floor, Lawrence was able to push himself backwards with his feet against the body of the ambulance. There was a moment’s hesitation as the creature tried to comprehend what was happening, then Lawrence started to struggle and it fell on its back. As the creature crashed to the floor, its grip lessened and Lawrence was free!

What next?

Lawrence scrambles to his feet with a triumphant yet uneasy cackle and runs like hell from the car park, heading for the trail; with any luck, his compatriots would soon be on the way. Even if they weren't, Lawrence was quite sure that he would be able that he would be able to lose Brophy and the creature; Lawrence was a resilient young man, and he had a head start to boot!

Brophy howled his fury and frustration!

“Kill him!” he screamed at the creature, which turned and started to shamble after Lawrence in the direction of the woods…

Lawrence continues to rush for the treeline, wondering if he could get the creature to lose track of him in the woods; hopefully, the others would show up before that had to become an option. He was sure that Brophy would take the opportunity to escape in the ambulance, but Lawrence was much more concerned with his own survival at this moment.

Can I have a CON roll? (To see how long Lawrence can keep running).

Lawrence, as it would happen, is not an easy man to tire out.

Lawrence quickly outpaced the ghoulish creature. After a couple of minutes, it could no longer be seen when he looked back up the path in the direction of the car park.

Glancing ahead, he saw someone hurrying in his direction - the detective, Alex.
