Howard found the sweaty, greasy flesh difficult to get hold over and caught his foot on a pipe on the floor of the cab. He felt his foot slip and he crashed to the floor, banging his cheek and opening a nasty wound. His vision blurred and all he could do was try to focus on the fleshy skirt of the creature that brushed the cab floor and the pulsating tendrils that snaked into the firebox of the engine.

Lawrence and William tried again but again without success. The creature gave a gloating, gurgling chuckle and pulled on the chain to sound the horn again, while flailing with meaty fists at the end of its tentacles...

The creature howled as William twisted away and it’s strike went wild, but then swayed like a boxer as the three men tried to attack it without success. Its tentacles whipped out again while another blast of the whistle sounded, this time accompanied by the crash of the door of the baggage car being flung open - it seemed the creature’s call to arms had succeeded!

His lips curled back, spittle flecking his cheeks, the manic Howard finally succeeds in gripping the creature, hoping to tear it apart with his bare hands.

The flesh-mountain’s triumphant howl ended in a scream of protest as Howard’s scratched deep furrows in its skin before his grip locked in. Its tentacles grasped the window apertures and it shook violently, like a dog might try to shake off an attacker. As try as he might, Howard couldn’t hold on and he fell back against the wall of the cab.

At the back of the engine footplate, William looked down and below the pulsating tendrils, could see the coupler that held the engine and the tender together. It looked like two intertwined metal fists, holding each other in a vice-like grip...

Since nobody else has done it and having proven useless in the fight, William goes for the coupling mechanism. He grips the lever sticking out on the right, squeezing the handle and pulling it in order to separate the locomotive from the rest of the train.

OOC,Ah, sorry, I see what you mean. I used that image to show how the two parts of the coupler work together but it’s a more contemporary picture as I think that’s a electronic sensor... If you look at the other image, it’s the pin above the ‘knuckle’ that’s preventing it from opening.
