OOC Chat

The voice on the phone said, "I understand that you are a friend of my son, James. He has gone missing. I require your assistance in bringing him home again...”

A university student has gone missing. Can his friends find out what has happened to James Frazer in 1920s Massachusetts?

As strange as it must be for Lawrence, William and Alex to find themselves in a strange place in a different time, I think it’s just as crazy for Sean meeting these anachronistic, gun-toting Americans!

Just a quick heads-up guys: I’ll be on holiday for a week on Friday, so I might not be posting much.

Philulhu, am I mistaken in thinking you are having an absolute blast playing Brophy? Hell, even I've grown to like the guy!

Brophy is a very fun, but still completely despicable, character; I like how we just call him by his last name, since we already have a William in the party.

Here's a question for everyone:

What have been your favorite moments in this campaign?

I've really enjoyed traveling to 1973. It reminds me of Life on Mars, and I've noticed the occasional reference (there was a scene where they opened a Watney's Party Seven with a screwdriver, for instance). Of course, Philulhu was in my game Space Oddity, which was heavily inspired by it.

The 1973 trip has been one of my favorite parts, as well. I wonder what's in store for the investigators once they return to 1930; I imagine they'll be paying a visit to Maine.

I'll tell you what I think would be very cool: an epilogue to the campaign where the 1930 gang, now old men, pay another visit to Brichester.

Honestly: Ivy getting kicked by the horse.

I also like the time travel plot, and Brophy in general, he's in that sweet spot of villainy where you both loathe him yet also find him entertaining. I also enjoyed the part before I joined where the party ended up stuck in the middle of the feud between the Brophy's and the Yig cult down in Louisiana.

Lol the horse incident was certainly interesting!

I’ve only been in the game for five minutes, but I love playing spiky characters like Ivy.

As keeper, the best bit hands down is logging on in the morning and seeing your updates so I know you’re still with me. We’ve seen a few games having to take a break recently, so I’m pleased we’re all still here :)

I did like the horse incident (although was concerned I may have killed Ivy!) and I enjoyed researching & writing about the Louisiana journey, although I’m not sure it came off the way I’d expected (more to do with how I’d written it than anything the players did). The current story was inspired by me wanting to explore a different era and choosing one that I had at least some familiarity with (having grown up in the UK in the 1970s). It isn’t really drawn from Life on Mars (although I did rely on that for the police station scene, somewhat). And Mr Handy, sorry - I think I’m long overdue an update for your game… :o

As for the future, we’ll have to see… ;)

Personally, I've had a lot of fun refining Lawrence into a more defined, vengeful, possibly psychotic character. He's evolved with my writing skill over time.

That's okay. I would like to pick up Space Oddity from where we left it if I can round up players and find the time. I think the last post was made in 2014. It started in 2009, so it had a good long run, and we'd gotten pretty far. I recently rewatched Life on Mars, which did make me recall the game and some of the similar lines I had used.

Yeah, so will I. ;) Except to go back and look at specific scenes I wanted to reread, I haven't really looked at it in seven years. It'll probably be a while before I can get myself up to speed and ready to continue, hopefully also with new players.
