[IC]Chapter 1.8c - Carlyle House Revisited

At the Gates – Carlyle House – Westchester County, NY
1:35pm - Friday 16th January, 1925
Luther is a skilful driver and the drive north into Westchester County is pleasant despite the arctic conditions.
The scenery along the winding roads though the wooded hills is if anything even more beautiful than during the taxi ride two days earlier, as fresh snowfall has replenished the winter wonderland and few have braved these snowy rural roads in motor vehicles.
just after one thirty in the afternoon Luther turns off the last winding country road and follows the private track that leads to the front gate of Carlyle House. a hundred yards ahead of the car stand the imposing iron gates that break the twelve-foot iron railings around the grounds. Beyond the gate, the driveway is lined with conifers which obscure any view of the house itself.
As before smoke rises gracefully into the sky from the chimney of the gatekeeper's lodge that stands just outside the gates. One man stands outside the lodge, braving the cold, his left hand grips the leed of a huge English Mastiff hound while he cradles a shotgun in right arm. A second hard faced sentry steps out of the gatehouse as Luther's car reaches the gate.
Amy and Sánchez recognise the second guard from their earlier visit.
