Dunstan, Whittleby, and Grey - West 57th Street, New York
9:30am - Friday 16th January 1925
Characters Present: Amy, Nemesio and Luther

The offices of Dunstan, Whittleby, and Grey are located on the forth and fifth floors of an office building on West 57th Street, near to Broadway. Bradley Grey's office is on the Fifth Floor. His secretary asks the investigators to take a seat, Mr. Grey is expecting them.

A minute later, Bradley Grey opens the door to his office and invites the trio inside. A slender, slightly foppish white man with dark, wavy hair that is greying at the temples Bradley Grey greets the investigators with a brilliantly white smile, his otherwise fine features are marred slightly by worry lines around his eyes and mouth.

"Miss Lawrence I presume? I'm Bradley Grey, I wasn't sure if you would still be coming, I've seen the terrible news about Jackson Elias."

"Thank you, I'm Amy Lawrence," says Amy, holding out her hand. She has worn a thick black dress today, both to signify that she's in mourning and to protect her against the cold. "These gentlemen are Professor Nemesio Sanchez and Mr. Luther Boyd. It's important that we still came today, moreso now than ever. We need to finish the work that Jackson Elias started."

Luther reaches out and shakes Grey's hand firmly, squeezing just a little too hard. He gives him a broad smile with plenty of teeth. He is well aware that his appearance puts people on edge and he likes to exploit it. 'Luther Boyd' he adds in a deep voice.

The lawyer looks startled when he shakes Luther's hand, he didn't expect the little man to have such a firm grip.
Anatomist wrote: 'We are all shocked and disturbed by Elias's sudden departure, Jackson had an intrest in the fatal Carlyle expedition, and thus so are we, please help us closing some lose ends for him and mis Amy here'
Grey nods agreeably and takes a seat behind his desk, "Well, of course, the Carlyle family - Miss Carlyle - consider the matter of her brother's disappearance and murder to be closed."

He indicates Amy, "However, as Miss Lawrence indicated to my secretary that Jackson Elias was researching the Carlyle Expedition for his book, we are keen to hear what he might have learned.

"Miss Carlyle might be able to provide further information,"
Grey smiles his brilliant white smile, "So long as the Carlyle name is not harmed."

"We understand," says Amy. "We would like to talk to her and fill her in on Jackson's discoveries. I really admire Erica Carlyle, and I feel like I'm a kindred spirit to her, especially now that I too know what it's like to lose someone about whom I care deeply."

"Miss Carlyle is a very busy lady, as you probably realise," replies Grey, "I'd need to establish first that the information would be of interest to her."

"Of course," says Amy. "We don't know everything Jackson did, but we do have his notes, and we'll have to rediscover whatever's not in them for ourselves, but I can say with certainty that she'll be interested. I know she conducted her own investigation, but she didn't find everything. To begin with, while in Kenya, Jackson met a mercenary named 'Nails' Nelson in the Victoria Bar. They discussed the Carlyle Expedition. Mr. Nelson not only knew a lot about it, but he claimed to have seen Jack Brady alive in Hong Kong in March of 1923." She shows Bradley Grey the relevant page from Jackson's notes.

Grey spends a minute looking reading though the page and then says, "That is certainly an interesting development, although this 'Nails' Nelson doesn't sound like the most reliable witness. Do you know whether Jackson Elias followed up the Hong Kong lead?"

He passes the page back to Amy, "And are you really planning to continue Elias' investigation?"
OOC:   If anyone wants to roll psychology you'll need to make a HARD roll, as lawyers are all tricky. ;)
HARD Psychology Success,Bradley Grey seems to be genuinely sympathetic to Amy, not sinister. He does however have a tell - whenever Roger Carlyle or the expedition is mentioned, his lawyer's ultrabright white smile slips and sometimes he fidgets with his hands You get the impression that he didn't like Roger much.

"Wherever they may lead," repeats Bradley Grey, he considers his thoughts for a moment.

"I think that Miss Carlyle would like to meet with you, to hear first hand what you know, and of your plans.

"I believe that you have already made your way to Carlyle House once, only to be turned away? How soon would you be able to return?"

He ask Luther as they walk out. 'do you drive? I rather travel in our own vehicle'

Amy phones the museum at the first opportunity, but it's not long since they left so she's not surprised that the others haven't returned yet. She leaves a message that they are revisiting Carlyle House and then returns to the car.

Luther drives north, skilfully making his way upstate through roads often treacherous with ice and drifts of snow.
OOC:   There might be a short delay while the other group finish their own first task. I'll post again here and start a new thread for this group then.

Feel free to chat while Luther drives.

'Hey Luther, no offence, but we are visiting some extremely gold spoon up their ass kind of people' Dr. Sánchez cleanses his throat after almost saying something even ruder 'soo try not to talk out of order ok?, we are extremely reliant on getting some good information out of this Erica Carlyle lady. Her brother disappearance is central in our investigation on who killed Jackson and what are their motivations' he shrugs thinking on an old event taking subconsciously to his arm. 'Im also shutting up ath the manor while Amy here can do the talking, i think she has enough lever as Jackson is...' he hesitates 'Excuse me Amy, was her boyfriend.

I guess we finally have some time to explain you whats going on, you have many questions?'

Dr. Sánchez turns to the backseat where Amy is sitting, he looks at her to see if he made her upset by mentioning Jackson.

'Hey yourself, Doc' laughs Luther, glancing over at Dr Sánchez and giving him a big grin. 'Long as you're paying me I can keep my mouth shut. But you're right, I've got a few questions.' He goes quiet for a minute, thinking, 'So your buddy, Jackson, he got killed right?' He glances over his shoulder, 'Sorry to be so blunt mam.'

He turns back to the road, 'So he got killed, that I understand. But what was he doing that got him killed? Investigating some expedition, where some people might, or might not have died. Who would kill for that and why? And how did you guys get involved, and my old buddy Marcus'. He pauses again, 'Now you're paying me so you ain't got to tell me nothing, but it'd be handy to know, why did you need to hire a guy like me? I'm guessing it wasn't just for my impeccable driving.'

Amy dabs at her eyes, though she'd have been crying anyway even if they hadn't brought up Jackson. "They also got Atauchi, who was outside standing watch," says Amy. "I don't know if he's still alive or not, but there's still some of them out there. It's the same bunch that's behind the other Voodoo Murders. I don't know if you've heard about them in the news, but we've been researching them. Whatever Jackson found out about, it was huge. The last thing he told me was that the expedition members are all alive, and that we have to stop them. Apparently they're up to something incredibly bad."

Luther,I can't remember exactly what they have and haven't explained to Luther, but prior to meeting this bunch of crazies Luther will certainly have heard about the Voodoo Murders. He knows that the "Voodoo Murderer" Hilton Adams is a crazed Great War veteran who was caught red handed with his last victim, whom he butchered with his trench knife. Adams is on Death Row at Sing Sing. Precise details of the symbol carved into the victims heads - which connects Jackson's killing to the other Voodoo Murders - is not something that was described in press reports, although "experts" like Dr Lemming were consulted by the cops about the nature of the symbol. The press did learn that the mutilation involved a carved symbol, and they also published the cops' nickname for the murders (ie the Voodoo Murders).

'Didn't they catch that Adams guy red-handed? Are you saying there's more of them, people involved in the Voodoo Murders? And what's the connection with Jackson?' says Luther.

'For starters they killed him, and what you call Voodoo murders are really named The Bloody Tongue, and that organization has roots all over the world.'
'Your buddy was with us in Peru, did a great jobb. Ill tell you amigo, be prepared for anything, be alert at all times.'
Dr. Sánchez rolls up his shirt arm showing his burn. 'A Creature that tried to bite, i was lucky and only got this burn, some sort of acid.'

Luther glances at the burn, 'Nasty, nasty. So, 'The Bloody Tongue' murdered Jackson because he found out about their role in the Voodoo Murders and you think they might come after you too? So why are these guys going about murdering people, they some kind of mobsters?'

"Also, we believe Adams is innocent," says Amy. "He was investigating the murders, and the killers set him up by stealing his knife and leaving it at the scene. There are also crooked police involved, though I think we can trust Lt. Poole, who responded to the scene yesterday."
