Amy slowly raises her hands and backs away from the bodies, her face streaked with tears.

Dr. Sánchez takes a few steps sway from the bodies towards the balcony.

Cynthia also backs away, hands raised. Thinking fast, she tries to work out how to turn the situation to their advantage. With the cops obviously panicking, she thinks they might be susceptible to persuasion.

“Officers, I-I think you might’ve just caught the Voodoo Killer!”

She stammers, nodding at the guy in the mask and praying that the photographer will arrive soon.

"Nice of you to join us, officers," Marcus says with a dry tone.

The sergeant stares at the assassin's tribal mask, then looks back at Cynthia visibly confused.

The younger officer, who still looks like he might puke at any second asks, "Didn't the 14th arrest the Voodoo killer already Sarge?"

This brings the sergeant to his senses, he nods and says, "Go to the lobby and call Lieutenant Poole, he's going to want to see this."
Marcus, make a KNOW or a LUCK check - whichever is higher. You might know who Lt Poole is.
Holstering his gun as the junior cop dashes downstairs, the sergeant says, "Well now that we've finally joined you, how about you explain what the hell happened here."

"It might take a while for the Lieutenant to get here, so no need to skip the details."

OOC,No need to write lengthy details, if you speak about these events to any of the cops, just basically summarise how truthful you are.

Amy is completely honest about what happened when they confronted the killers, freely admitting that she shot the dead assassin just as he was about to deliver the coup de grace to Jackson Elias and allowing the police to take her pistol as evidence. She cries when she relives Jackson's death, though she knows she did everything she possibly could to save him.

Marcus answers whatever questions the police have truthfully, but otherwise lets the others handle things.

Cynthia follows the others’ lead, telling the truth about their confrontation with the killers but nothing else. She also tries to stoke up some inter-precinct rivalry.

“Maybe the 14th got the wrong guy - can’t be many killers goin’ ‘round carving stuff on people’s heads like that.”

She studies the Sergeant to see if she’s elicited a reaction.

"Looks like you might be right Miss," replies the sergeant in a deadpan tone. His expression is unreadable.

He begins methodically taking notes as the investigators recount the events at the Hotel Chelsea, maintaining the same neutral demeanour as he scribbles in his notepad, pausing occasionally to ask additional questions.

When Amy begins to cry the sergeant suggests that everyone step out into the hallway, which is being kept clear by one of the other cops. However before anyone can move a commotion can be heard from the direction of the staircase.

"Freedom of the press! No look here officer, I got every right to come through, my editor needs to know that Miss Shosenburg is safe!"

It seems that Rebecca's photographer has arrived before the NYPD Lieutenant.

Nodding approvingly at Rebecca, Cynthia follows the others out, careful to keep out of any photographs.

"The university will love to hear this"
He only answers any direct questions, and will leave to the others most of the conversation. He don't want to risk to tell more than it is needed.

The sergeant leaves the investigators standing in the hallway as he dashes to ensure that the protesting photographer in ushered back down to the lobby. He manages to snap a photograph of Amy wiping away her tears before being dragged down the stairs.

"Where's Rebecca?" asks Amy, looking around once she realizes she's been photographed. If anyone can keep her picture from being published and keep her name out of the story, it's her. If those details get into the papers, she could become a target.

"I'm right here Amy," Rebecca replies from behind Marcus.

"Don't worry, he's a Times photographer."

Amy nods, certain that Rebecca understands and can take care of it. While she knows that this is Rebecca's big story, and she wouldn't normally mind being portrayed as a hero, right now there's more protection in anonymity. Heroes end up dead all too often, as the Great War had proved.

With the photographer forced back downstairs the sergeant returns and continues listening to the story of what happened - taking extensive notes and occasionally nodding. The hallway is kept clear - all the other guests from this floor having been evacuated down to the lobby - and so it is now possible to talk to the police without standing in sight of Jackson's gruesome corpse.

It takes almost another thirty minutes before the Lieutenant finally arrives, by which time most details have been recorded in the sergeants notepad.

"Wait here please."

The sergeant walks over and confers with the newly arrived Lieutenant Poole in a hushed tone, far enough away to make eavesdropping difficult. He points to his notes and to the investigators several times.

Lieutenant Poole - NYPD

Poole is a stocky, grizzled looking veteran detective. It is clear from his expression as he talks to the sergeant that he is very keen to speak to the investigators.
OOC:   If you'd like to attempt to listen in on the whispered conversation between the two cops, it's a hard listen test (half skill value).
