Chapter 5: An Interview with Asenath

[Mr. Handy]

"All right, thank you for your help," says Alice, leading her friends out the door.

[HoneyDog]

The companions can feel Asenath’s eyes boring into their backs as they exit and follow Elspeth to the front door.

Outside in the cold night air, they are free from the oppressive atmosphere of the house, although if any chance to glance up, they will see Asenath’s pale face watching from the window.

Isadora,Roll Luck. If you fail, the results will become apparent at a later time.

Everyone,What would you like to do now? You can talk in Isadora's car.

[Mr. Handy]

"We should see Dr. Bricknell and tell him what we've learned," Alice tells the others once they're back in the car. "He may know something about this Claude Owen."

"I'm sorry. What exactly have we learned?" Harrison offers. "Perhaps I should have said something earlier but it is only a rumor."

Harrison pauses to look at his companions before continuing. "There are rumors that Asenath is into dark magic. I fear that giving her a bracelet of unknown composition that has unknown symbols engraved upon it was a bad choice. If this Claude Owen fancies himself as powerful a magician as Aseneth, then we should investigate him immediately. If he is indeed involved in black magic, then it may be that the rumors about Asenath's involvement are also true. That is something I would rather know sooner than later."

[Mr. Handy]

"What we've learned is that Claude Owen is now a suspect, and the only one whose name we know," says Alice. "I have misgivings about letting Asenath study the bracelet, but we had no choice. I agree that we need to investigate Claude Owen post haste. Dr. Bricknell may be able to tell us some things about him. We could also talk to Dr. Winside, given that he's a medical student."

Isadora lets somebody else drive the car. She is shivering. "Asenath Waite is indeed a powerful magician... Have you felt it? She reached straight into my mind. We will have to be more careful if we encounter her again."

[Mr. Handy]

"It did feel like she was trying something like that both times I met her," says Alice, "but I managed to resist her."

'I can resist any woman, except dear Alice"

Harrison laughs. "Well at least you have a sense of humor in spite of what's going on. Let's go see the good doctors then and see if they can tell us anything about Claude."

[Mr. Handy]

Alice blushes and smiles. "Thank you, dear Henry," she says. "You say the sweetest things."

OOC,I’ll begin new threads then – one for Dr. Winside and one for Dr. Bricknell, or you can all go together and visit them in turn if you don't want to split up. If you do, I suggest that Henry goes to see Dr. Bricknell as he has already met him, and Alice should be one of the ones to see Winside. Winside is a botanist though, and is less likely to have met Claude Owen, so you will need a luck roll with him.

OOC,Is there any reason we shouldn't all go together, first visiting [b]Dr. Bricknell[/b] and finding whatever information he has before seeing [b]Dr. Winside[/b] and seeing if he knows anything?

OOC,We can go together to both gentlemen. In the order Mr. Handy proposed: Bricknell first, Winside second.

OOC,I’ll start a new thread then. To save time, let’s say that Alice has phoned ahead to arrange an appointment and Bricknell will be ready with some information. It seems like the logical course to take.
