All right, I'll make Reg a Sergeant Major who served in Burma. Would I have to make him older, and how much? It seems unlikely he could have risen so high so quickly. He can have a hunting rifle instead of the Lee-Enfield.

Yes, 20 is far too young for a Sergeant-Major. 35 would be a more realistic age. A man of that rank and age would be more equivalent with junior officers -in terms of respect he would probably command more than them in fact. They'll treat him like a servant otherwise.

Alright changes were made, no arabic language for me.

Well, he could have studied it himself, perhaps while in India he studied the Koran and Islam or something, and made a study of Arabic then. It's up to you.

he could but my idea was that he studied the language and culture because of the conflict (know thy enemy)
so while stationed in india it makes no sense for me to studie sudan culture

i just made him more persuasive so it should play out just fine

Looks good Wruter. Once Andy is finished, we'll begin.

I've made the necessary changes. This Reginald Smythe can no longer be the same one as I played in Bad Company, but he could be his uncle with the same name. I also found out that the Lee-Enfield wasn't in use until 1895, so he could never have used one anyway. I've replaced it with a .30 lever-action rifle.

Also, Dr. Preston qualifies for a +1D4 damage bonus.

Hi HoneyDog, character completed! I'll just double check my maths but think it's all good. Cheers, Andy

Your character looks good, Andy.

So we have 5 characters: 1 former SLI officer - a writer (Andy), his former company sergeant-major - doing whatever work comes his way? (Handy), a former medical officer - doctor (Wruter), a serving SLI junior officer (Juulm), and a British government spy (Helpless B.). Does she have any cover occupation?

Jolly good show chaps.

I think I had already included the cover occupation as Writer for Illustrated Weekly/Mediocre Artist. I think this would an useful cover.

You're welcome.

I'd forgotten to give myself back the +1 EDU and the 20 occupational skill points that I'd taken away when I created the younger version of Reg, which he gets back because he's older now. I've added them back.

A chap assumes your being overly familiar with the title of Prince Albert's Light Infantry (Somersetshire Regiment) they won't become the SLI again until 1912.

I'd ask to join the game but as I held a commision in Her Majesties Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (comprising of the 5th (Northumberland) Fusiliers, 6th (Warwickshire) Regiment of Foot, 7th (Royal) Fusiliers & 20th (Lancashire) Fusiliers ) a more senior regiment I really couldn't play an officer in a more junior regiment of the line.

You're right Ghill, let's refer to the regiment as Prince Albert's in future posts. Thanks for the shout out.

Perhaps you can join a later game if you like - if this is successful I'll do another Gaslight scenario. But please continue to fill us in on military trivia. My own military experience is limited to teaching at the National Defense Academy for a year here in Japan. I didn't see any action; we weren't allowed to attack the students.
