Isadora wonders - could the growth of the fungi (if there are indeed fungi) force and push the brickwork to fall apart? Or corrode the bricks in any way?
"Should we proceed further?"
She shines a light into the tunnel.

"Maybe, Miss Carmichael," said Owens. "But I think that we should do a little excavation here first--remove some bricks and whatnot. Let's cover our noses, though--good idea of yours."

The heroes begin to move the bricks, stacking them to one side. After about 15 minutes though, they cleared more than halfway down, but are yet to uncover anything of interest.

Shortly thereafter, they come across a curious sight. Propped against the tunnel wall, an animal skull has been mounted atop a long branch. Underneath it, scratched in charcoal, is the legend “en touto nika”. On the ground, several crates are stacked, which are topped by extinguished candles.
