Ch 1a - Entering the Hotel (Bernard, Vivienne, Margery, Ed.)

"I'm sure it's nothing." Says Margery not wanting to alarm her new mistress or seem to be an 'unsteady' servant. "Here is your nightdress, Miss, and would you like me to brush your hair?" Margery helps Vivienne prepare for bed, trying to hurry the process along as much as she can.

[Mr. Handy]

"Thank you, Margery, I'd like that," says Vivienne. She changes out of her clothes and into her nightgown, sitting drowsily on the bed while Margery brushes her hair.

"98,99...100. And that's done." Margery finishes brushing Vivienne's hair and binds it into a loose plait. "I'll see you in the morning then, Miss, tea at 8am?" She checks that everything is tidy in the room before leaving noiselessly. Once out in the corridor she again puts her ear to the wall on Lady Grey's side.

OOC,Where is Margery sleeping?

Margery,You hear gentle sounds, but not enough to discern what directions it came from nor can you tell from the volume whether there is many things going ‘bump’ inside the walls or just one set of particularly noisy feet.

OOC:   V is resting close to the walls of the room, on one side of the bed is a closet and the other is the bedside table.

"Yes, that would be splendid," says Vivienne as Margery leaves. "Good night, Margery." Now alone, she allows herself to yawn and rests her head on the pillow, shutting her eyes and letting sleep take her.

Margery listens to the noises and can't understand how people could be inside the wall which is so thin. She shrugs, maybe there are pipes inside, bringing the sounds from outside. She has laundry to organise so carries the basket down to the concierge to drop off. And then there is some ironing to do before bed so she needs to ask for an iron and ironing board. She yawns as she tiptoes downstairs.

Margery,as Margery walks downstairs, she felt like the air was clearer; somehow less stuffy.

That felt better; must be the heat rising or something. Margery goes to the concierge, "Good evening, I have laundry and ironing to be done. Can it be ready by 5am? These delicate silks here I'd like to do myself; is there an iron I can use?"

[HelplessBystander]

"Of course, miss, right away, miss." The Concierge said listlessly, as though he wasn't really listening to what she was saying, "It's dark outside, you should go to sleep."

"Yes, well, you know how it is for those in service; sleep is a luxury." Magery frowns and hopes he is paying attention. "Can you send the iron up to my room, please? Lady Grey will have breakfast in her room at eight but bring it to my room first and I can take it in. That will be all, thank you."
Margery hands over the laundry and then makes her way back up the stairs to her room, fanning herself in the heat. In her room she opens the window wide and strips off a certain amount of her uniform to stay cool. Then she waits for the iron whilst sewing a small repair and pondering the strange noises in the wall.

In the darkness, as the trio slept, and it was as though there was no interval between the moment they closed their eyes and the moment that they had woken up, in a dim, dark space that obviously was no longer their hotel room. Flecks of cold, icy blood dripping down a gash opened during the night and there were signs that they were roughly handled and tossed into this space. In retrospect, it seemed kind of obvious that something was going on.

OOC:   Everyone loses 1 HP and wakes up in a some disadvantaged situation, with a severe headache. Roll Luck for 1. I'll write up conditions for failure later.

Vivienne awakens in the morning, somewhat worse for the wear.

Margery finally gets to sleep.

She awakes groggily, is it time already? Such a short night! She feels her forehead which thumps horrendously and is shocked to see her fingers covered in blood. She looks around at her suroundings - kidnapped! What else could it be? Lady Grey! Margery hurriedly gets to her feet, worried about Vivienne. So that's what those noises were last night - the kidnappers sneaking up to the rooms - not her imagination after all!

[Mr. Handy]

Vivienne moans, resting the back of her hand on her forehead. "Oh, my head...what happened?" she mumbles sleepily. "Margery, is that you?" Terror fills the pit of her stomach as she realizes that they've been kidnapped. While Vivienne might be held for a sizable ransom, there's only one reason that comes to mind why they would have taken Margery too. "We must have been abducted by white slavers," she says with a shudder, dragging herself to her feet. "We have to get out of here!"

"Oh Miss, I'm so sorry! I heard the kidnappers' footsteps in the walls and didn't say anything!" Margery looks for a door or a window to escape by, whilst mopping her brow with the sleeve of her nightdress. "Brrr, it's very cold here- strange"

[Mr. Handy]

"No worries, Margery," says Vivienne. "You didn't know they were kidnappers. All we need to be concerned about right now is escaping. Oh, you're hurt! Here, let me help you." Vivienne tries to stop Margery's bleeding.

"What...where..."
Bernard's eyes try to focus and he attempts to recall where he is and what has happened.
"Who..." He squints at the others. "We were in the hotel together."

[Mr. Handy]

"Oh!" says Vivienne, startled. "I hadn't seen you there, it's so dark. Well, perhaps they're not white slavers, then. That would be a bit of a relief, but I'm wondering what they do want with us. I'm Miss Vivienne Grey. Here, let me help you too." She tears off another strip of her shift as a makeshift bandage. She then proceeds to deal with her own injury, but the darkness and awkwardness make it imposssible. "It's a good thing it's dark. If this keeps up, I'll be completely indecent."

"Here, Miss, let me." Margery tears off some of her own nightdress, wipes Vivienne's wound and binds it up. "It's so dark in here, I could try feeling my way round the room to find a door, if you think that would work, Miss and Sir."
