Background:
Edward was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 1888. He was educated in Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. When the Great War began he volunteered from the beginning, rapidly becoming an officer but then was injured early in the war when he was shot in the leg. He was subsequently transferred to Military Intelligence where he proved himself more then up to the task. At the end of the War he returned to Vancouver and to his work as a journalist in his father’s newspaper, The Vancouver Guardian. The newspapers’ leaning is towards left-wing politics, and is very well connected with various political and media organisations around the world.
Edward has been sent to China as a political correspondant to report on the impending revolution which will transform a semi-feudal and semi-colonial country into a modern, democratic, and socialist state, One of his aims when arriving in Beijing is to secure an interview with the current president, Xu Shichang.
Edward’s father is Canadian-born Charles Carver, and his mother is Han Suyin, from China. Edward learned Cantonese and Mandarin from childhood. Edward has a twin brother, Henry, with whom he corresponds regularly. They have a special bond, and you could swear that they can read each other’s thoughts.
