Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
“Ahaa!” exclaims Ambrose upon seeing the sign, “I wonder...”.
From the looks on the faces of his companions it seems he is not alone in seeing a connection. “Shall we investigate?” he whispers keeping his voice low, hopefully avoiding the ears of their chaperone.

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
Gordon dismisses the similarity of the name to the so-called psychic's vision as mere coincidence. Still, there's something intriguing about an abandoned warehouse in the heart of London's infamous Limehouse district.
He draws the attention of his fellow witnesses.
"This looks interesting. Shall we take a look, while the police are busy elsewhere? They'll be close at hand if there's any trouble. Safety in numbers, and all that."

Ann Veronica
“Come on then”. Ann Veronica pushes open the door and enters the warehouse. Her heart is racing.

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
"It is odd that the door was just left open," says Diane, following Ann Veronica inside, "but shouldn't we let the police know where we're going? They're here to protect us, and this could be dangerous!"

"Personally I'm not too keen on getting the police involved just yet. That risks opening up an information channel to that Mulverhill character, and I don't trust him one bit. Also, we can look out for each other, right?"
James is a bit surprised by his own new-found courage, but he really wants to get to the bottom of this affair with this cube and how it corrupted his old friend...

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
Inside the derelict warehouse all is still, silent, and, apparently, empty but for a handful of mostly broken crates.
Then, in the daylight spilling through the open doorway, you make out the form of a man's body lying crumpled in a corner on the dusty floor.
It is the body of Bidwell's missing butler Hanson Bartlet. Livid bruises are plain to see around his throat.
Near the body stands an upturned crate obviously in use as a makeshift table. Upon it can be seen piled several books and sheets of paper.
"Good heavens!" comes a startled voice from behind you in the doorway: Constable Baker has followed your progress. "Wait here, I'll fetch Inspector Cleveland."
The young constable hurries off, leaving the group alone inside the warehouse.
Reverend Somerhayes:

Ann Veronica's hands fly to her face in shock at the sight of the body. She wasn't expecting this. The awful image fills her mind, preventing any rational thought.

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
Absolom feels his throat begin to constrict due to the dusty interior, but manages to avoid falling to a nasty bout of coughing that such circumstances usually presage.
Holding his spotted handkerchief against his mouth as a defence he carefully steps towards the body all the time scanning the warehouse for something untoward.

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
Upon inspection it is discovered that the books piled on the crate comprise of various reference works dealing with world history, industrial and scientific history, and astronomy. The books are all marked as property of the British Museum.
The sheets of paper are covered with strange mechanical diagrams and mathematical formulae. Among the sketches is a crude drawing of what appears to be Bidwell's crystal cube. The cube seems to be central to the diagrams.
Looking at the diagrams:
Peering around, Mr. Copeland, Professor Powell and Reverend Somerhayes ascertain that the warehouse is empty of other persons. At the same time they spot a small yet distinctive object hidden in the corner behind the crate.
It is the crystal cube.

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
Before the police, and especially Mulverhill, comes back, James rushes towards the cube and tries to hide it better than it is now. Having seen what the cube can do, he tries to avoid touching it in any way, though.

Cecil looks confusedly at the diagrams & formulae.

Re: The Eyes of a Stranger
Seeing what Professor Powell’s plan is, Ambrose positions himself in front of the cube’s hiding place in an effort to further divert any police attention. As he does so he grins at James and makes a small shrug, “Sometimes the ways of the Lord are indeed mysterious”.

While not formally trained, Diane has seen enough mechanisms from her work at the theatre to be able to understand the diagrams.
