Artemis's tavern- Rome, Italia Early Morning- March 15, 44 BC
Artemis, Spurius, and Marcus found themselves on the floor of the tavern's common room, being shaken awake by the innkeeper, who was carrying a broom. "Wake up," he said. "It's morning, and I need to clean the floor. Also, there's a messenger outside for you. Egyptian, by the look of him. Says he has an urgent message."
"What? Huh?" Artemis shook himself and looked about. His head was pounding. He pushed himself off the floor and batted the broom handle away. He pulled himself up and nudged his colleagues. "Wake up, wake up. I'll go find out what the messenger is wanting."
Artemis paused, bent over and took a deep breath. He pulled himself up and walked outside. He blinked and squinted in the morning light. Oh this was so much easier when I was much, much younger. He took a deep breath and slowly opened his eyes and raised a hand to help hold the sun abay.
An Egyptian servant stood outside the door. "I bear a message for Artemis Gaius Sylvius from Nefertiri, servant of Queen Cleopatra," he said. "She wishes your presence in the palace at once, most urgently. There have been new developments."
"Alright, give me a moment to gather my companions," Artemis turned and tried opening his eyes wider as he looked back into the inn.
"Up men, up, seems we have a meeting with the Queen." His voice carried the tenor of a veteran from the field in hopes that it would trigger if nothing else a trained scramble response. "Can I get a tankard of water at the very least? Need to get the taste out of my mouth.
Artemis grabbed a tankard and found something to drink. It helped.
"Rise, time to rise, if not I can pour the next tankard on you to help bring you back to the living. We have to go see the Queen, NOW!" Artemis shouted the last word in the same manner he would have given orders and signals on the battlefied. We need to get moving to see what is the new development.
"Aye, Marcus, SPURIUS, we need you on your feet now! Artemis looked at the tankard that still had water in it sitting on the long table, and eyed the slow moving soldier. "If you are not moving, we will come back for you, we cannot keep the Queen of Egypt waiting on a sleeping soldier."
Artemis turned and walked back out to the messenger and nodded at Marcus. They needed to get moving. Spurius could hustle after them. Too much time was being lost.
OOC,Spurius's player hasn't posted in a month and half but has logged on to the board as recently as yesterday. He'll come with if he hasn't done so by the time I'm ready to move things forward.
"I beg your forgiveness, please lead us back to your Majesty's palace." Artemis said with a level of apologetic frustration as he looked back at Spurius starting to stagger after them.
Marcus slightly smiled at the whole situation, Artemis's enthusiasm really pumped him up, although he was not used to being the loud type, but the morale boost was good to have.
"The queen is waiting, I wouldn't like to get on her bad side." Marcus said with a smirk on his face, putting his cucullus on, and stepping through the door.
