Scaevola's Villa- southwest of Rome, Italia
Before Dawn- March 15, 44 BC

Story took the gamble and dropped the act. Summoning his most regal Time Lord tone, he said: "No, we don't know Master Kemnebi personally, but in a manner of speaking I am a seer and I know what you are planning to do. While Caesar will die by assassination as you plot, it can not be by the blade of the Dagger of Ra or the Brotherhood's hand!"

Scaevola's eyes narrowed, and he glared at Story. "I have come too far and gotten too close," he said. "I'm not going to let you stop me now!" With that, he threw open the door. "Guards!" he shouted, hurrying through it. A few seconds later, Akana ran back into the atrium, also shouting for the guards.

Story looks at his companions and says, "Well, what sort of reception is that for a Time Lord?" He faintly smiles as his turns his attention to Lucius before saying, "Lucius lead the way... get the Brook and Elizabeth out of here. I'm right behind you." He moves over to the mahogany writing desk and picks up the candle. "I hate to burn knowledge, but we need a distraction." He proceeds to quickly attempt to light as many of the papyrus scrolls on fire as he can while they still have time.

Lucius Verres

With all this agitation Lucius draw his knife and ready himself for confrontation. He shout "Brook, Elizabeth with me! Let's exit to the peristylium ! "pointing at the door at the back of the room.

He turn to story and say "Try to slow them down with something, we'll wait for you outside! Please be careful!. "

"Let's get out!"

"Coming!" says Elizabeth to Lucius. As she turns to head out with Lucius she says quickly to Story: "Good luck!"

Elizaabeth and Brook followed Lucius as he led the way out the door into the large open-air garden, knife in hand. The garden, ahead and to the left, was surrounded by a series of pillars at regular intervals and bordered by a marble walkway. Beyond it to the left was the villa's high wall, some ten feet high. To the right, an opening was visible in the same wall that contained the door through which they had just passed that led back towards the atrium. There was also a short passage directly to the right beyond that opening that ended at the villa's right wall. To the right and some distance ahead were three doors lining the walkway on the right side of the garden. Scaevola ran past them along the walkway, his toga flapping, towards a doorway at the end of the walkway, facing the rear of the villa, from which two Egyptian-looking guards bearing wicked-looking curved swords emerged. Also at the rear was another dead end leading to the villa's rear wall, bordered on the right by the opening from which the guards had emerged and on the left by another doorway.

"Get them!" Scaevola shouted at the guards as he pointed back at the companions. "Take them alive if you can!"

Back in the study, Story set fire to the papyrus scrolls with the candle, and they caught quickly. The fire was beginning to spread, and it probably would not take long to engulf the room considering how much flammable material was in it.

Lucius Verres,[b]Lucius[/b] knew from the layout of a typical Roman villa that the three doors on the right most likely led to bedrooms. The doorway from which the guards had come probably led to the exedra, a smaller indoor garden, and the one at the rear left would be the triclinium, or dining room.

OOC,[b]Brook[/b], I'm assuming you're also following [b]Lucius[/b] to keep things moving, but let me know if you want to do something different. Everyone, please roll Listen.

All Elizabeth heard was the pounding of her heart in fear.

Brook ran with Lucius and Elisabeth, worried about Story.

Seeing the fire beginning to spread Story turns and begins to move in the direction of his companion.

Brook Davies,[b]Brook[/b] heard someone moving around in the nearest of the three doors on the right. "Wake up, there's trouble," said a man's voice. Then footsteps moved quickly towards the door from inside the room.

Story,[b]Story[/b] heard [b]Akana[/b] in the atrium, running away. There were also two distant sets of footsteps in the atrium that were running closer. When he reached the open door to the peristylium, he heard someone moving around in the nearest of the three doors on the right. "Wake up, there's trouble," said a man's voice. Then footsteps moved quickly towards the door from inside the room.

Brook points towards the nearest of the three doors to the right. "Guards...they're coming..."

Story quickly looked around seeing if there was anything that could be pushed in front of the door to slow down the progress of the individuals waking up behind it.

"Lucius, which way do we go?" says Elizabeth urgently to her friend, hoping that he understands the layout of a building like this better than any of them.

There was nothing in the garden that looked like it could be used to block the door. The only thing Story could see that looked like it might do the trick was the writing desk in the study, but even if he could move it on his own, which was iffy, he'd never get it into position in time. It was also starting to catch on fire. That would make it a more effective obstacle, but it also would make it more of a challenge to move.

OOC,[b]Story[/b] can make it into the garden this turn, but he can't reach that door, as he is behind the others by a round.

Seeing nothing that could be easily moved to trap those stirring behind the door, Story presses on hoping to catch up to his companions.

Brook wants to move in a different direction than from where she heard voices.

"Quick, down there and over the wall, it's the best way out!" said Lucius to Elizabeth and Brook, pointing down the narrow passage leading to the villa's wall between the main house and the room from which he heard the noise. "I'll stand in the entrance and hold them off while you escape. They can only get at me two at a time."

OOC,I'll have to post for [b]Lucius[/b] and make a decision for him. It's been well over a week now. This should give you two a decent chance, but it might not work out so well for him. [b]Lucius[/b]'s Listen roll: [dice]0[/dice]

"Ok!" says Elizabeth, grateful for a direction, but worried for her friend. "Come on Brook!" she says, as she runs in the direction Lucius pointed to.

Brook looks worriedly at Lucius, but darts after Elizabeth. "We still need that dagger, don't we?"

Story emerged from the study in time to see Elizabeth and Brook run down the passage. The two ladies soon reached the wall, which was almost twice as high as either of them. Unless they could somehow get over the wall, they were trapped in a dead end. Lucius positioned himself in the mouth of the passage, gripping his knife with determination. The two guards rushed towards him with their swords in their hands. "Drop your knife, or die!" bellowed one, leveling his sword at Lucius. Meanwhile, another guard emerged from the nearest door, but fortunately he did not have a weapon in his hand. He rushed towards Story. Scaevola stood behind the guards, muttering something unintelligible under his breath.

Lucius knew that the odds were against him, facing off against the two guards bearing down on him. He was outnumbered, and their weapons were deadlier than his, but he had one chance. If he could bring down one of them at the outset, it would be a more even fight. He lashed out with his blade at the guard on his right, but the guard simply took a step back, laughing.

OOC,[b]Lucius[/b]'s Knife roll (59% skill) attacking the second guard: [dice]0[/dice] Everyone else may act before the guards do, except for [b]Elizabeth[/b]. However, nobody can interfere with her this round, so she can go ahead and act now too. [b]Elizabeth[/b] and [b]Brook[/b], if you both wish to climb the wall independently, you should both roll Climb. Alternatively, one of you may try giving the other a boost. In that case, the booster should make a Resistance Table roll pitting her STR against the boostee's SIZ. This gives [b]Elizabeth[/b] a 30% chance to boost [b]Brook[/b] or [b]Brook[/b] a 45% chance to boost [b]Elizabeth[/b]. If the roll succeeds, the one being boosted gets up the wall. If the boost fails, the boostee may still attempt a Climb roll. However, the booster will still be on the ground no matter what happens.

Brook latches her hands like a ladder step to boost Elizabeth's climb. "Here! I'll help you!"

Lucius Verres

Lucius completly miss his strike against the guard. He feared his time has come, but he was not about to give up. Has the guard leave him a bit of space after his knife strike Lucius try to locate the secret entrance of Scaevola that Caelia indicated him back at the egyptian palace. It could serve of an escape point or at least a way to fight one on one due to the tight space.

As the guard rushes Story, he recalls his training in Venusian Karate and sends his fist flying towards his assailant.

The guard that rushed Story saw the fist flying at him with alarm, and he instinctively deflected the attack with his arm while leaning aside. He managed to avoid the powerful blow, but he was off-balance and unable to attack himself.

The guard that Lucius had not attacked struck him with one expert slash of his sword, slicing his side wide open. Blood gushed out, and the pain was overwhelming.

Another guard, this one also not armed, emerged from the open door from which the guard engaged with Story had come, following closely behind him.

The shock and agony of Lucius's wound caused him to collapse and lose consciousness. The other guard, the one who hadn't struck Lucius, stepped over his prone and bleeding form as he slung his sword on his back and rushed down the narrow passage towards Elizabeth and Brook, who were now trapped against the rear wall. Brook crouched beside it with her hands cupped, and she tried to boost Elizabeth up when she stepped in them, but she just wasn't strong enough. Desperately, Elizabeth scrambled up the wall and grabbed onto the top of it, then hoisted herself up so that she straddled it. She could only watch in horror as the guard closed in on Brook, his arms outstretched to grab her...

OOC,It's a new round. [b]Lucius[/b] is unconscious, which may have saved his life. [b]Story[/b] and [b]Brook[/b] may act now, before the guards do. [b]Elizabeth[/b] cannot act until after the guards go again.

Brook acts on Instinct, doing what most girls are taught to do if a man comes at them. She tries to knee him in the nuts.

In a moment that felt like an eternity Story the Time Lord sees his friend Lucius fall by the sword, Elizabeth scale the wall, and Brook his youngest companion engaging the enemy. In desperation he yells, "Brook, get out of here!" mere moments before he launches into another Venusian Karate powered attack... hoping for contact.

Story's opponent once again blocked his attack, this time even more expertly. He was obviously trying to hold him off until his partner that he'd awakened arrived, and now he had. The other guard took a swing at Story, but in the chaos of the melee it went wide.

The guard chasing Brook stopped short, and her knee connected with nothing but air. Then he lunged forward and effortlessly seized her about the waist. "I've got her," he told the guard who had just downed Lucius. "Get the other one!" That guard also stowed his sword and stepped over Lucius, soon reaching the base of the wall where Elizabeth was perched. From there she could see the estate's grounds beyond it, and another wall bordering the estate not far away.

It is now [b]Elizabeth[/b]'s turn to act. She may lower herself down from the wall and drop without having to roll anything. Then it's back to the top of the round, when it's [b]Story[/b] and [b]Brook[/b]'s turn. Since all three of you go before the guards do, you may all act again now.

"Come and get me!" shouts Elizabeth to the guards, taunting them, as she drops down to the other side of the wall. Assuming she lands ok she will try to run as far as possible, hoping to attract some of the guards away from her friends.

With renewed determination upon seeing Brook snatched up, Story lashes out at the guard in front of him.
