[IC - CHAPTER TWO] New Faces

8 May, 1945. HMS Atlantic Isle

Dowson-Frost leads you to the base airfield, where a large cargo aircraft has just landed. "I don't really know all the details, but HQ is building up some kind of operation down here. Something to do with the intelligence we recovered in Saxemberg. That's why you weren't sent back home, because there is still work to do. In fact, HQ sent a couple of specialists down here. I have received instructions to gather you all together and escort you to Lieutenant Commander Woolley. He'll tell you what you need to know".

You can now see two men getting out of the airplane. They look like they have flown a long way, the exact same look you had when you landed here a couple of months ago. The two men look strikingly different: one looks like an academic, slightly overweight, around 50 years of age; the other one is young, wears an uniform, and has noticeable mediterranean traits. Dowson-Frost gestures to them: "Over here! Welcome to HMS Atlantic Isle!"

[Mr. Handy]

"Must be to do with Richter Base," says Oliver. "Someone needs to make sure they got the message that the war is over, and that someone is probably us."

[MDPLISKIN]

The older gentleman dusts himself off and reaches into the leather satchel at his side to pull out a pipe and match. He blinks and squints in the sun’s glare as he puffs on his pipe. He’s in his 50s with graying hair and slightly balding of average height. He’s wearing a grey suit and small glasses and is slightly overweight. He walks over.

“Dr. Kurt Donnelly,” he says as he extends a hand,”Would one of you be able to direct me to the nearest facilities? I need a few minutes to rinse myself of being shook like a rag doll in that sardine can for the last day before I find out what in the hell im doing here.”

[Mr. Handy]

"Captain Oliver Carpenter, SAS," says Oliver, shaking his hand with a firm grip. "I'm not a doctor yet. I was a medical student, but my studies were interrupted by the war. Now that it's finally over, I intend to go back and finish them. Be a nice change to just put people back together and not have to take them apart. But it seems there's one last thing we must do first. I'll show you to the WC. God knows I've been here long enough to know the way."

The younger man salutes, Captain. I am Lieutenant Andreas Vaslopoulos. He wears a tool vest over the uniform, and you can see the insignia of an engineers.

[Mr. Handy]

Oliver salutes back. "As you were, Lieutenant," he says, pronouncing it "Leftenant." "Good to meet you. I suppose you're here to have a look at that wotsit we recovered."

That may or may not be so, captain. Andreas looks a little bit surprised and confused. We were only told to be here; not why. Are you in charge? Or are there other we should report to?

The man who greeted you as soon as you disembarked jumps into the conversation at that point: "Lieutenant Commander Woolley will tell you everything you need to know. I'll take you to him as soon as you're ready. And I'm Sergeant Dowson-Frost, nice to meet you. Lieutenant.", he adds at the end with a quick salute.

Another man greets you, short, with dark hair, holding an unlit cigar between his lips. "I'm Michael Callahan, but everybody has just called me Stogie since I enlisted", he shrugs with a shade of a smile forming at the edge of his mouth.

Amadeus stands in the background, presumably, and looks on at the conversation.

«Good to see you, seargeant ... Stogie,» Arni says, nodding to each one in turn. «I don't think we'll be any readier by staying here. Do you, Mr Kurt?»

[Mr. Handy]

"I'm ready too," says Oliver.

“Ah. I’m ready too.” Amadeus replied.

Dowson-Frost nods and says: "Let's go then".
