Silently, you walk back through the corridor and past the blast door into the docks area. The submarine lies half-broken in the water, where you left it. You could access it through the collapsed derrick, or by swimming to the hole in the front cargo door.

"Let's use the derrick to board the U-Boat," says Oliver. "I've had enough of swimming in icy water, thank you very much."

"Stogie is right. Some of us have to stay guarding. I say three of us get in and three stay here with Panzerfausts. If that thing appears we blow it to pieces, with Nick's face and all." He say, trying unsuccessfully to hide his nervousness.

"Right," says Oliver. "I volunteer to go aboard. Who else is with me?"

Stogie nods. "Never been in subs before, I'll come for a look."

"Now you've seen it and know I'm not nuts, any clue what that thing is? Other than mean."

Oliver shrugs. "That's what we need to find out," he says. "Maybe there's something in their records about it. My best guess is it's some secret Nazi weapon that ran amok."

Oliver is able to climb the derrick and reach the U-Boat without difficulty.

Not especially gracefully but at least without another dunking in the frigid drink, Stogie manages the climb.

Amadeus climbed up with minor difficulty. Perhaps panting and wheezing slightly, but overall, he did a bang-up job.

Smalls nods gravely at Tom and Dowson-Frost. "Ok boys, it's up to us out here. If that thing shows up you have permission to fire at will." He says, looking around for any sign of the monster presence.

“I don’t suppose I could make myself useful around here?” Amadeus asked tentatively.

Stogie, Amadeus and Oliver set foot on the huge submarine, feeling small like ants on the back of a big dog. Their footsteps on the steel echo in the large empty space of the cavern, causing all kinds of dangerous thought to float in the back of their minds. What if there is another monster lurking around? Maybe waiting for its preys inside the mortally wounded submarine, or silently stalking the waters around it. What if a dozen eyes are watching every movement from one air vent on the ceiling?

The conning tower is about twenty meters away from the derrick. As the hole is not easily reachable from here, especially without using a rope, that seems to be the easiest way of access to the inside. Careful not to slip, and fall into the icy waters, you walk towards it. A quick inspection shows that the hatch offers no resistance and could be quickly opened.

Meanwhile, Tom, Smalls and Dowson-Frost keep watch. Everything seems calm for now.

"Stogie, you take point," says Oliver. "Amadeus, you follow, and I'll bring up the rear."

Stogie grins around his cigar. "Can do, let's open up this can of sardines."

He slings his rifle and opens the hatch, careful to stay out of sight for any Jerry submarines inside who might be keen to take potshots. Stogie pulls out his .45 and flashlight and takes a quick peek down into the sub...

The flashlight reveals a ladder going down about 6 meters into the conning tower of the submarine. As the submarine is partially lying on one side, it would not really be a vertical descent, and you think walking on the inside is going to be an awkward business. Plus, at least part of the interior is flooded, as water entered through the hole in the front cargo door. You wait a few seconds for any reaction from the inside, but you see no movement. No man in sight - and more importantly, no monsters.

Stogie peers down. "Can't see anything, can't hear anything."

He shoves the TL 122-A "crookneck" flashlight down the front of his uniform, with the light still on and shining out at chest level. One hand clutching his .45, Stogie clambers down.

Oliver waits for Amadeus to descend before following, sidearm in hand.

Tom shoulders his Panzerfaust and eyes his surroundings suspiciously, not forgetting the water..

Amadeus attempted to follow along silently. Holding his weapon with equal fear and trepidation. He wasn’t trained as a soldier, but he did have some bravery left within...maybe. Even he wasn’t sure at this point.
