St. James's Church - London, England
9:15 PM - Saturday, September 7, 1940

An old church organ stood in the basement of a church, filled with stray odds and ends including some spare pews kept here for storage. The only exit was a single door. Tinker emerged from behind the organ and peered around. Two old ladies sat snoozing on one of the pews. An elderly man sat on another, and a pretty, young blonde woman lay on a third, both asleep as well.

Even though Phyllis was asleep, her hearing was sharp enough to pick out both the distant sounds of the air raid above and the softer footsteps in the shelter with her. Her eyes snapped open, and she saw a young woman with Asian features of astonishing beauty walking through the shelter. She hadn't even heard her come down here.

Tinker saw that there were only three sleeping ladies and one sleeping old man. One of the two elderly ladies opened her eyes and looked at her.

Tinker stood near the organ and struck a stunning picture. She was an Asian woman with long jet-black hair that was tied up into two merging ponytails with a shining pink ribbon giving her head an appearance of being trailed by a butterfly. She was dressed in - if recognized by Phyllis - a beautiful and expensive Hanbok, a traditional Korean garb, the long silk skirt portion was a deep crimson which came down to her feet, which wore simple cloth slippers. The top was a pale green silk blouse that was adorned with indigo stitchings outlined with gold trim of flowers and unrecognizable Korean lettering.

Tinker froze as the elderly woman's eyes shot open and she spoke, in clear English (touched with American, British, and Asian influences?), "Hello there, Grandmother, are you alright?"

Tinker,The "church organ" is actually your TARDIS, disguised by the chameleon circuit. The entrance is in the back.

Phyllis eyed the foreign woman with suspicion. She'd read some 'Fu Manchu' in the doctor's waiting room once by mistake and this chit looked like she'd walked straight out of that appalling comic.

"I might be getting on in years and yes, technically, I am a grandmother but that's no business of yours and where did you learn these dreadful manners? That's no way to speak to your elders; grandmother indeed!"

Phyllis sat up, pattted her hair and expanded her ample bosom indignantly. "I am Mrs Cruckshank. This is Mrs Duncan and Rector Giles ,and the young lady is called Laura." She emphasied 'lady' implying that the Chinese woman had yet to qualify.

She narrowed her eyes suspiciously and took in the beautiful clothing. "You don't look like you've just walked through the Blitz; not a speck on you." She elbowed Mrs Duncan, "Maggie, wake up! Look at this!"

Tinker winced, "Not one minute here and I'm already making friends... but this is the Blitz huh." She thought back on what she knew of the Blitz and wished she took the time to dress more appropriately.

"I am sorry, Mrs. Cruckshank. Calling an older woman 'grandmother' is similar to saying 'mum' where I was, I didn't mean to offend." Tinker gives a very deliberate and practiced curtsey. "My name is Tinker. Nice you meet you. And as for your observation, well I suppose I don't look like I have walked through the Blitz because I have only just arrived."

"Hmm?" muttered Maggie as she awoke. "Oh, hello, lassie. Didn't hear you come in."
OOC,I don't think it was known as the Blitz yet on the first night, though perhaps Phyllis just coined the name now. Tinker, please roll History.

Tinker,Tinker guessed from the instrument readings on her TARDIS and Phyllis's accent that she was in London. She knew that the London Blitz had lasted from September 7, 1940 through May 10, 1941. Though the early part of the Blitz featured some daylight raids, later the bombers only came by night due to heavier losses in the daytime. They came every night too, for months, before their frequency declined. This basement of a church was no doubt an air raid shelter. More than a few had been adapted as such, and Underground stations were also used as shelters.

Tinker looks around the basement, "It's a little sparse in here don't you think?
Shouldn't there be more people in the shelter? Does no one live around here... or do they think this is some sort of test..."

Fluffing her skirt out in front of her, Tinker takes a seat near the two old women. She unties a thin cloth strap from the front of her outfit and pulls a small satchel from her back to her lap. As she rummages through the satchel she pulls out a small key, some strange currency -paper and coins, a small metal cylinder, and finally a parcel wrapped in paper tied off with a ribbon.

Tinker unwraps the parcel revealing a dozen colorful little balls, eats one and then offers them to the ladies, "Try one, they're called songpyeon. They are little chewy rice desserts. These ones have honey in them - they go really well with tea! We might as well have something sweet, it seems we might be here for a while." She smiles as she passes the little parcel to the women.

"Thank ye kindly," said Maggie, taking one of the little balls and chewing it thoughtfully. "Och, verra sweet. We've got tea too. Would you like some?" She went over to pick up the tray with the tea set and bring it back. "There were more people here, but the lot of them went up to look at a dead body. Killed by some sort of animal attack, they said. Or a monster, according to some." She shook her head. "The air raid warden I can see going outside in this, but the rest of them? Those of us who were sensible stayed here."

Tinker gratefully takes some tea and munches away on another ball, "Animals and monsters huh? Well, war seems to drag all sorts out of the woodworks." She takes a sip of her tea, "The others' bravery is commendable for sure, but these raids will definitely get worse before the get better. They should stay safe instead of wandering out blind."

"Too right," said Maggie with a nod as she helped herself to a cup of tea. "You've got a sensible head on your shoulders."
