The Zero Room - OOC Chat Thread

London, 1940: The world is engulfed in the flames of war, and now the war has come to Great Britain's capital. German bombers rain death and destruction upon the blacked-out city, but what other terrors lurk unseen in the darkness? The Time Lord, his companions, and a handful of London's inhabitants doing their bit may be the only ones who can avert disaster.

This is Classic Doctor Who meets Call of Cthulhu, the fifth of a series of connected adventures set in different eras and locations that includes The Terror Out of Time, The Ninth Planet, The Shadow Over Dunwich, and The Brotherhood of Death.

I was worried I’d missed stuff, having been absent, dealing with family health things. Fortunately seem not to! Back now.

Meanwhile I read about a free print and play Doctor Who Solitaire Story Game tonight.

Review here plus short article by the creator: https://cardboardclash.wordpress.com/20 ... me-2nd-ed/

And the files can be downloaded from BoardGameGeek: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame ... nd-edition

Yes, the Solitaire Story Game is excellent and a lot of fun! I think I mentioned it before in the OOC comments years ago, back during the first edition of the game. I haven't had time to try the second edition yet, but it's supposed to be improved over the original.

Very very possibly mentioned here before. As you may have gathered I have the memory of a very leaky sieve

I've downloaded the second edition tonight, so have all the files ready to have a go.

Sorry I've been away. Being the rector of a parish makes things incredibly busy during the holidays. I will catch up and make a post this evening.

Netflix / BBC / classic horror fans - I've done the first 2 episodes of the new Dracula TV 3-parter and it's a hoot! From Messrs Gatiss and Moffat of Dr Who and Sherlock fame.

First two eps were great IMHO, especially ep 2, which was a quite sublimely crafted piece of theatre in a confined space with small cast.

Sadly episode 3 went downhill badly for me and many other viewers.

But I've got eps 1 and 2 to remember :P

Lovecraft fans! BBC Radio has done full cast radio dramatisations of modern interpretations of Charles Dexter Ward and The Whisperer in Darkness with audio sfx etc. They're really good. I tend to listen on the daily commute. Listen to CDW first. 10 episodes each and can be downloaded as podcasts:

Ah yes, they're good, more modern podcast style retellings, I should have mentioned them. I listen on the BBC Sounds app. They have also been doing some Doctor Who radio plays.

I've heard of these on Yog-Sothoth.com. I would like to listen to them when I have some time.

I plan to update soon, if not tonight then tomorrow.

I'm sorry, but I was sick today and couldn't update. I should be able to do it tomorrow, though. This will give anyone who wants to go up to the administrator's office a chance to post indicating this.

Even after almost eighty years, they're still finding UXBs in London.

Remember, if you come across an unexploded bomb, don't touch, keep well away from it, and alert the nearest air raid warden!

I can remember a great tv series from my childhood set among bomb disposal soldiers in London during the blitz. Would have been an early '80s production or even late'70s, BBC. Fictional drama series. My recollection is the main cast had all been blown up by end of series.

We got a lot of BBC shows here on the Australian ABC back before web channels and streaming tv. Still do now, just differently delivered mostly.

I've heard of it, but I've never seen it. It's called Danger UXB. It aired on PBS here in America in 1981, but I was too little to know about it at the time. I was just discovering Doctor Who then (also on PBS).

Thanks! The wikipedia page didn't say anything about a DVD, but I'd have bought it if I'd seen one for sale anywhere, and I haven't. I'm not sure if there is one, or at least not outside of Region 2. I might be able to buy a digital copy from Comcast, my cable provider. I'll have to check.

Some of the surviving clips of missing episodes of Doctor Who came from episodes that the BBC sent to Australia. Ironically, those scenes alone were preserved precisely because the Australian censors deemed them too scary to air, and they were required to hold onto them.

Laugh!

That's one of those light side / dark side things isn't it? I hate the censoring, paternalistic mentality of that but I'm very glad the film got saved. Be grateful in the long run, I guess. :)
