Alice is happy to help Henry by typing his manuscript for him, especially since she's currently out of work, and it also gives her the opportunity to read it. While he has allowed himself to be painted as a coward, she knows that he has true courage. She goes with him on his visits to Dr. Balzac at the sanitarium, and she stays in touch with the rest of the group who had gone to the farmhouse. They are the only ones she can talk to about what happened, the only ones who truly understand.
