Appearance & Personality:
Henri Balzac is tall and rather plump, sporting curly black hair and a goatee beard, and is never seen without his spectacles on. Balzac is rather vague, easily excited, and generally quite messy. Balzac speaks with a distinct French (-Canadian) accent. Balzac is a die-hard fan of jazz music and frequently plays the trumpet (not well).

Background:
Balzac was born and raised in Quebec as a native French speaker. Balzac qualified as a doctor of medicine at the Universite de Montreal, and then served as a medical officer with the Canadian Army in the Great War for a year before being returned home, having contracted a "nasty" illness himself (ahem). Once the war was over, Balzac pursued his interest in botany, completing a PhD in Botany at The Sorbonne.

Arturo (Called "Arthur" by his english speaking peers) is an Spanish professor and biologist, currently living in Boston, making a living as a biology teacher. His interest in small animals and insects turned him from the son of a family of farmers into a student in the faculty of Biology in the University of Zaragoza. After finishing his studies, as well as his thesis "On Archaic Organisms", and due to political instability in his country, he fled to North America pursuing a better life, as well as continuing his research. There, he met Prof. Putnam while researching the tomes of Miskatonic Library. Althought Arthur has found a dead end on his research, and he left Arkham four years ago, he and Putnam have been writing to each other, albeit on an irregular schedule. Now Arthur lives a quiet life teaching and educating himself further in his spare time. He sees the Professor as a friend and advisor, who taught him everything he knows about archeology and anthropology.

Mmm, yeah, i thought about that. My explanation is he's learned english over his stay in USA, I originally thought his Other Language should have been English and his original language spanish. Im changing that.
His country instability hails from economical crisis, and rising nationalism and militarism clashing with socialism/communism.
(Pre-Spanish Civil War)
Im from a spanish speaking country, and i have some spanish blood, heh.

After completing his PhD, Balzac returned to Canada and obtained a position as a botanical field researcher at the Universite de Montreal. On several of his field expeditions to the Canadian north (eh), Balzac crossed paths with Prof Putnam and the two researchers were able to assist each other in their work. Subsequently, Balzac has regularly corresponded with the good professor and visited Miskatonic University several times in a semi-professional capacity, giving talks and discussing finds.
