IC-Ep 2-Alone in the Dark(Elizabeth only)

Story and his companions infiltrate the conspiracy and break into various houses in an effort to uncover evidence, and Senator Scaevola is implicated. Caelia Alba courageously visits Scaevola's secret lair to gather information. While their Roman friends spend an uneasy night dreading what may come tomorrow, the TARDIS crew bluffs its way in to Scaevola's villa to thwart his schemes, but all does not go as planned.

IC-Ep 2-Alone in the Dark(Elizabeth only)

Post by Mr. Handy »

The House of Cicero- Rome, Italia
Mid-evening- March 14, 44 BC

Elizabeth waited in the alley for an uneventful hour after Lucius departed. Everything was quiet, but it was more eerie than anything else. She couldn't help but think of what she would do if something happened to Lucius. Here she was, alone in a strange city in the ancient past, at night. It should have been a historian's dream to be here and now, but she couldn't help but worry. She didn't know her way around ancient Rome like Lucius did, and it would be dangerous, especially if she wandered into the wrong neighborhood. Could she even find her way back to Cleopatra's palace, or to the TARDIS? Even if she did reach the TARDIS, she couldn't get inside, as only Story and Brook had keys. She had no idea how long Lucius would take in there, or how long she should wait. She recalled the time that Lucius and gone to Professor Exeter's house in London only to be captured, and how she and the others had found the house deserted with blood on the floor. He had suffered greatly, but fortunately he had managed to escape. Then he had been the one alone in a strange city, but he had somehow managed to reunite with them in time for the final confrontation.

Elizabeth waits uneasily, keeping a vigilant eye all around her, and listening for any unusual sounds of approaching people, or people leaving the house. She hopes that Lucius is ok, and the others as well.

Everything was utterly silent. That was probably a good sign.

Mmmm, thinks Elizabeth to herself. Probably a good sign that I'm not hearing anything. No-one coming or going, no sound of anything bad happening to Lucius. She rubs her hands together, quietly, to try to keep warm, rather wishing that they were doing this espionage in the height of summer, rather than in the middle of March. Of course if it was the height of summer this whole saga with Julius Caesar wouldn't be happening. She grins to herself at that thought, and muses on what she can remember about the conspiracy, while continuing to watch and listen, still keeping as quiet as possible, and out of sight.

Elizabeth was grateful for her shawl, which at least kept the chill off of her shoulders that would otherwise be exposed. She only knew the basics about the assassination of Julius Caesar, plus what Story and Brook had told her. Brook knew an awful lot about it, but she was not around to ask at the moment. She knew that he would be killed tomorrow in the Forum area, and that Cassius and Brutus were the leaders of the Senators who would assassinate him, both of whom they had met earlier today, and that Brutus had once been Caesar's protege. They and the other Senators who were part of the conspiracy would surround Caesar and stab him to death.

Elizabeth shakes her head quickly, partly to keep herself awake and alert. She knows she can't remember enough about the conspiracy, certainly not as much as Brook. For now her task is clear: keep hidden, quiet, and watching. And let Lucius know if anything happens. She hopes he is ok.

Another half hour or so passed quietly and uneventfully. Elizabeth kept half expecting some horror to jump out at her from the darkness, but nothing happened. The only danger she seemed to be in was that of being bored to death.

Just as she was beginning to relax, Elizabeth heard a thump, followed by Lucius's muffled cry. It had come from the side of the house where Lucius had originally gone to scale the wall, but she could not see it from her hiding place
