The Vanishing of Abigail Wright

The year is 1999. A group of agents with the FBI quickly discover a routine case is anything but. Thrust into a world that's as incomprehensible as it is deadly, can this team hope to hold back the darkness?

Vanessa's mania gives her a strength Nik cannot compete with.

"Vanessa!" he implores. "Don't go!"

Vanessa wrenches herself away and starts to flee once again, nearly toppling down the stairs as she runs down them, screaming.

Nik's phone begins to ring. Did he want to answer it or chase his partner?
OOC:   It will take Vanessa three "turns: to exit the building, provided Nik or no one else stops her.

OOC:   Okay, we can have opposing Athletics rolls again-- Vanessa is simply too panicked to be able to be persuaded again unless Nik can restrain her.

Vanessa keeps running, but she's starting to get exhausted.

Nik's not as fast as he wishes, but Vanessa is even slower. He's able to catch her again, though he finds her in just as much panic now as she was a moment ago. There's on the first floor now, and Vanessa is looking towards the entrance and seeming to want to bolt for it.
OOC:   For opposed rolls, whoever fails worse generally loses, so Vanessa is slower here. You both can make str*5 rolls again, and Nik can attempt to persuade her. Otherwise, she'll have to continue to run. Sorry for calling for so many rolls btw, but I don't think this scene will last too much longer.

Nik is too tired to get much of a grip on Vanessa. The day's events have taken their toll.

Nik can barely keep hold of Vanessa, but she's thrashing about too much-- and too ineffectivitly-- to throw him off. He forces her to look at him and tells her she's safe. Their long relationship bears fruit, and the FBI agent calms down. She's still very frightened and wants to do nothing more than run out of the building and get away from this infestation of the Unnatural, but she knows if she really wants to she'll be able to handle it for a short time. The choice was hers.

Nik breathes a sigh of relief.

"We're gonna need to figure out how to spin this. But not here. Let's go to the car."

He opens his phone to get Jose and the cable guy to meet them.

Jose appears shortly after Nik calls him, Langford in tow. They both seem relieved to leave this place.

The team and their straggles follow out to the car. All four can get in it, but there's not enough room for the dog Vanessa picked up-- though it can perhaps sit on her lap if she is willing. It weighs well over 100 pounds however, so this may not be the most viable of options in the longterm.

As the team plan to discuss their next move, it occurs to them that having a civilian around for it may be problematic. But perhaps they could swear him to secrecy, or deal with him in some other way. After all, he did not seem like he was eager to explore the strange realm he had stumbled into further.

"We need to be sure we're really out of that place," says Vanessa. She allows the dog to sit on her lap for now, not wanting to abandon the poor thing. "A quick search on the Internet should be able to confirm that history is what we remember, not what Roark did."

A quick check of his phone informs Nik it's the same date as when they went in, but only around 15 minutes later in the evening. They had felt like they had been in there for hours.

The dog settles on Vanessa's lap. It's rather uncomfortable, but he seems happy.

Nik's phone rings again.

"Time works differently in there," says Vanessa, petting the dog. "Roark sounded like he was straight out of the 1940s, though a different 1940s. Who knows how long he's been stuck in there?"
