A Victim of the Art

The year is 1999. A group of agents with the FBI quickly discover a routine case is anything but. Thrust into a world that's as incomprehensible as it is deadly, can this team hope to hold back the darkness?

OOC,Thanks SP! I was running out of ideas.
Nik is about to give up when an idea hits him.

"Sandra, can you hear me? Can you look at me?"

"Thank you, Stephen," says Vanessa. "One of my fellow agents was going to pick me up, but you giving me a ride will save him the trouble. I'll just let him know he doesn't have to come and I'll meet him at the hotel." She calls Nik to fill him in.

Nik,Sandra blinks once at his first question, then twice at his second. It seems clear to Nik this is deliberate. She still refrains from looking at him, however.
Vanessa,Stephen smiles. "It would be my pleasure." He drives her to the Excalibur Hotel, and despite his light flirting is a perfect gentleman. He's happy to talk about himself if asked. The Hotel itself is nice, located overlooking the bay. Vanessa quickly learns she has her own room. It contains anything she may want. Two Queen sized beds, a large television and attached bathroom, even a small kitchenette. A table is located right near the balcony, allowing one to enjoy their meal or coffee while enjoying the spectacular view. [ooc]I think I'm going to pause Vanessa here until Nik's done with his scene. Should only be a few days to finish up.[/ooc]
OOC:   We'll say Vanessa's a bit ahead of Nik, so he gets the message from Vanessa as he's due to leave in the future.

Nik

“Now we’re getting somewhere!”

Sandra, I guess you’re not able to talk, so I’ll try to make my questions as simple as I can. Did you see what took Lauren? Was it human?”

Nik's mouth is suddenly dry, and he gulps involuntarily.

"Are you able to draw or write?"

"Shit" Nik thinks.

"Is there some... thing, which is stopping you from talking? Are you in danger?"

Nik,Two blinks. Nik's reasonably confident the only thing Sandra can do at this point is directed blinking. How ghastly for her to be trapped in such a shell.

Nik,Sandra seems unsure how to answer the first question, but finally she blinks twice. To his second she immediately blinks twice. [ooc]Unfortunately Nik failed his luck roll to get a breakthrough here. Still, Nik knows Sandra can understand him. He may be able to find a way to translate her blinking into some sort of code to get deeper answers, though I don't blame Nik if he wants to leave.[/ooc]

OOC,Oh Nik can carry on like this for a while, although it might get repetitive for you with all the blinking!

Nik,Both questions receive two blinks. [ooc]Oh I don't mind.Hope you are finding this interesting, it's meant to be a bit obtuse but hopefully not too much so. :D Though if you like you can list out every question Nik would ask and I'll answer them all at once. If any new questions arise from that we can cover it in a future post.[/ooc]

ooc,Don't worry, I like the investigating parts. Here are some questions along with an idea for further communication. "Was there anyone new in Lauren's life?" "Was the thing that took Lauren an animal? "Did it have wings"? "Was it large"? "Do you know of something in Lauren's room that can help us identify what took her"? "Do you know if there is anyone in town who might know about what happened to her?" "What word would you use to describe the thing that took her?" Nik will recite the letters of the alphabet, and ask Sandra to blink at the appropriate one. Hopefully they can spell out a word, or a name if she knows anyone who might have information.

Nik,[ooc]Well done, you figured it out. I won't even make you roll for this. :D[/ooc] Nik pulls out a notepad and a pen, and is pleased to see that Sandra seems to be able to communicate with him by alphabet. He gets into the habit of counting her blinks and writes down what she "says." It's slow and tedious, but it gets the job done.
Was there anyone new in Lauren's life
No.
Was the thing that took Lauren an animal?
No.
"Did it have wings"?
Yes.
"Was it large"?
Yes.
Do you know of something in Lauren's room that can help us identify what took her
Maybe. I don't know.
"Do you know if there is anyone in town who might know about what happened to her?"
I don't know.
"What word would you use to describe the thing that took her?"
Monster. Demon.

Nik

“Demon? Dear God. And the motherfucker can fly. How the fuck do we fight this one?”

Nik completely understands Sandra’s condition now. Whatever she saw must have snapped her mind. What’s it going to do to him?

“Just one last question Sandra. Aside from yourself, who would you say Lauren is most closest to?”

OOC:   No real reason to use spoiler tags anymore I suppose :D
Chad Jordan. Boyfriend.

There's a knock on the door and Dr. Feldman comes back in.

Nik

“That’s fine Doctor, we’ve finished for now” Nik tells him.

He looks into Sandra’s eyes. Sandra, I’ll be back to see you with a report. Try and rest now”.

“Poor woman” he thinks, as the doctor escorts him out. “I wonder if she knows she won’t see her daughter again. I guess demons probably aren’t big on ransom demands”.

All
Nik and Rue make their way to the hotel. It's a very luxurious building positioned overlooking the bay. Once there, the two quickly discover they'll be sharing a room next to Vanessa. It's a very nice room with a balcony, large beds, a small kitchenette, and cable television.

The party meets to discuss their individual findings. It also occurs to the agents that they've not had dinner yet, and they're all at least peckish.
OOC:   Okay, everyone's back together to plan their next moves and report on what they've learned. One quick minor question; will you be conducting the briefing in your rooms or doing it over a late dinner at the in hotel restaurant/bar? We'll say it's around 11 and the place is open to 1.

Edmund drives past the practice to have a look at the layout of the building, after which he returns to the motel where the rest of the group are staying to await their return.
