Character Creation

There are several ways to create a pc in Delta Green. Pick one that works for you.

The simplest way is to take a pre generated character. The fine folks over on Reddit have created over 300 characters to chose from. Pages 301 to 400 feature FBI characters. Feel free to take one of these, editing the name and sex if you like. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0NZYP ... 1FdEE/view

1. For those who prefer creating their own character, you can either assign 72 points to the six stats( Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Power, and Charisma) Or roll 4d6 for each stat. Drop the lowest roll, and add the remaining three rolls to the stat of your choice. Do this for each one.
Below are the things each stat influences:
HP: STR+CON/2. Rounded up.

Willpower: equal to POW. Helps suppress insanity or project it onto a Bond.

San: POW*5.

Breaking Point: The point at which loss of SAN triggers a long term insanity or disorder. Starting SAN minus POW. (So if your character begins play with 60 SAN and has a POW of10, their breaking point would be 50.)

2. Next, chose your character's professional skills. These are skills they've learned and utilize on the job. The average FBI character has the following skills. Feel free however to mix or match, or even pick other skills and discard some of these. Just make sure you have the same number of skills at each level, as below. So your character should have six professional skills at 50%, one at 40%, two at 30%, and two at 60.

Alertness 50%
»» Bureaucracy 40%
»» Criminology 50%
»» Drive 50%
»» Firearms 50%
»» Forensics 30%
»» HUMINT 60%
»» Law 30%
»» Persuade 50%
»» Search 50%
»» Unarmed Combat 60%

3. Next pick up to eight skills( except Unnatural) to be hobbies and increase them by 20%. You can increase the same skill more than once, and can even increase a professional skill. For example, if you use the skills as written above you can select law twice and raise the skill rating to 70%. You could then pick up to six other skills to raise or focus on only a few. No skill can begin play higher than 80%.
Below is a list of skills and their starting levels. I've tried to note what the more unintuitive ones mean, but if you need more information feel free to ask.:
Spoiler:
Accounting (10%)
Alertness(20%)
Anthropology(0%)
Archeology(0%)
Art(0%) Pick a category of focus: Dancing, Singing, Painting... can pick more than one, each treated as a separate skill.
Artillery(0%)
Athletics(30%)
Bureaucracy(10%)
Computer Science(0%)
Craft(0%) Pick a category of focus: Electrician, Mechanic, Locksmith, Gunsmith... can pick more than one, each treated as a separate skill.
Criminology(10%) Knowledge of criminal behavior. Street Smarts, essentially.
Demolitions(0%)
Disguise(10%)
Dodge(30%)
Drive(20%)
Firearms(20%)
First Aid(10%)
Foreign Language(0%) can pick more than one, each treated as a separate skill.
Forensics(0%) Gather information and evidence using forensic equipment. Compare DNA, determine weapon details.
Heavy Machinery(10%)
Heavy Weapons(0%)
History(10%)
HUMINT(10%) Human Intelligence. Detect lies or nervousness.
Law(0%)
Medicine(0%)
Melee Weapons(30%)
Military Science(0%) Knowledge of military culture, techniques, and regulations. The types are Land, Air, and Sea.
Can pick more than one, each treated as a separate skill.
Navigate(10%)
Occult(10%)
Persuade(20%)
Pharmacy(0%)
Pilot(0%) Pilot a type of plane or ship. Can pick more than one, each treated as a separate skill.
Psychotherapy(10%) Diagnosis and treatment of mental illness.
Ride(10%)
Science(0%) Chemistry, Biology, Physics , so forth. Can pick more than one, each treated as a separate skill.
Search(20%)
SIGNIT(0%) Signals Intelligence. Allows Encryption, communication, electronic communication, and the making and breaking of codes.
Stealth(10%)
Surgery(0%)
Survival(10%)
Swim(20%)
Unarmed Combat(40%)
Unnatural(0%) Basically the Cthulhu Mythos skill. Cannot be raised except through play.
3. Chose Bonds. These are family, friends, pets, or colleagues who the characters rely upon. They can be individuals(Wife, Brother, Mom) Or groups(Army Buddies, Mom and Dad) Each bond begins with the same rating as your Charisma score. As play continues, these bonds can be weakened to repress insanity or prevent SAN loss.

Each character starts with three. However, if you want more, you can add up to two more bonds. Each one will cost one of your eight bonus skills. So adding two more would reduce you to six. Alternatively, you can take up to two bonds away. Each one so taken away gives your character 20% to put into a skill.

4. Chose Name and Age, and a brief background.

5. Describe up to five motivations. These are largely fluff that describers things your characters find important. They can be goals like "achieve promotion" or "see my favorite band as many times as I can." Everytime your character suffers a mental disorder, one of these motivations is erased, reflecting the long term turmoil they suffer.

6. Each character begins play with a Kevlar Vest(3 points of armor, as long as the attack is not aimed at other parts of the body) and a light pistol(1d10 damage.)

To help you along, here are some suggested professions within the FBI, to give you examples of what your characters might be doing. These are just suggestions, feel free to avoid them all.
Spoiler:
Criminal Investigative Division (CID)
The CID is responsible for most of the FBI’s investigations
and field work.
SUGGESTED SKILLS: Criminology, Forensics,
Firearms, Law.

National Security Branch (NSB)
The NSB specializes in counterterrorism and
counterintelligence.
SUGGESTED SKILLS: Foreign Language,
HUMINT, SIGINT, Computer Science.
EQUIPMENT:
portable hardened laptop, advanced data analysis software, chemical sniffer/
analyzer.

Intelligence and Operations Support
Section (IOSS)
IOSS supports the most high-profile, dangerous, and sensitive
investigations by providing highly specialized experts.
IOSS includes the vaunted Behavioral Analysis Units, the
Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP), and the Crisis Management Unit which provides support and
training for disasters and high-risk public events.
SUGGESTED SKILLS: Computer Science,
HUMINT, Psychotherapy, Science (choose one).
EQUIPMENT: An extensive professional library,
membership in ViCAP (Violent Criminal Apprehension
Program, which identifies and tracks “signature”
criminal tendencies), and/or access to cutting edge
criminological software.

Directorate of Intelligence
The FBI branch focused on surveillance, counterespionage,
electronics, and linguistics.
SUGGESTED SKILLS: Criminology, Forensics,
Firearms, Law.
EQUIPMENT: Language training materials or electronic
surveillance equipment.

Hostage Rescue Team (HRT)
or SWAT Unit
HRT and SWAT specialize in kinetic tactical know-how
and rapid takedowns in all types of environments. HRT is a
unique SWAT force that specializes in anti-terror operations.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS:
»»Alertness 60%
»»Athletics 60%
»»Demolitions 40%
»»Dodge 50%
»» Firearms 60%
»» Forensics 30%
»»Heavy Weapons 50%
»»Melee Weapons 50%
»»Military Science (Land) 60%
»»Navigate 50%
»» Stealth 50%
»» Survival 50%
»» Swim 50%
»» Unarmed Combat 60%
( only one BOND allowed with this one.)

SUGGESTED BONUS SKILLS: Criminology, Firearms,
Melee Weapons, Stealth.
EQUIPMENT: Access to the FBI’s Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification
System (IAFIS) and the Department of Defense
Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to
quickly identify suspected terrorists or criminals.
That should be everything you need to get started. First time running the new system, and I don't have all that much experience with the old, so this will be a learning process for me as well. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. :D

Also, all characters will be FBI Agents working out of the Phoenix Arizona field office. They could have recently been assigned there for the specific case at the start, or been a long term worker there. I leave it up to you.

Character creation rolls:
[dice]0[/dice]
[dice]1[/dice]
[dice]2[/dice]
[dice]3[/dice]
[dice]4[/dice]
[dice]5[/dice]

Well, that bites! All of those rolls only add up to 61, and one of my stats is somehow a 5! Can I just throw those away and distribute 72 points instead?

Sure. You can use the point system. If you feel like gambling though, I'll allow you(and everyone else) one opportunity to reroll all their stats. However, you'll need to take the second set.

Feeling lucky?

12 - Former head of section at Quantico, Connor Phelpps, who helped forge the anger he saw into the young, raw recruit and tempered into the rounded agent he is today.

Having served in the army during the late 1970's and 80's he saw action in Lebanon, Grenada and Panama when he was honorably discharged. Whilst serving in Panama, Martin Watson, his best friend was severely wounded - ultimately losing his right arm. Around the same time his younger sister was attacked and he took that as a sign that he needed to serve and protect those less able to do so for themselves - back home. He joined the F.B.I. and during his training at Quantico (?) he was taken under the wing of Connor Phelpps who took the raw zeal of the young man and moulded him into a much more balanced individual, which he is most of the time.

Here's my effort - please let me know if there is anything too strange. I tried redistributing skills a little bit which I thought might suit the character. Plus my baby doesn't like me trying to concentrate on stuff.

Nikolas Siilasvuo

FBI Special Agent、Phoenix Field Office
Place of Birth: Eugene, Oregon
Age: 32
Nikolas (Nik) is the only child of a blue collar family, who won a scholarship to study law at the University of California, as he had long dreamed of a career in law enforcement. There, he also minored in computing. His father is an electrician and so Nik is proficient in electrical repair, which complements his computer skills. A solid, if unremarkable agent, he is ambitious (although not overly so) which can sometimes irritate his colleagues, who regard him as a bit of a brown-noser, with a tendency to go over heads. His father is an immigrant from Finland, and he is proficient in that language, and occasionally is required for translation work. He wants more field assignments to help his career.

I'd like the game to be fairly active, but I understand when folks get busy. Ideally every day, but every other day is fine as well. If you need me to NPC your character for awhile just let me know.

Chad has been with the bureau since -88. Due to stress he has been assigned to a listening station on Greenland for eight years.
He started off as a profiler for the bureau. He had been a sniper in the Marines before that.

Even if he lacks in human reading, he makes up for that in forensics. A hunch leads to a confirmation. His face makes people take a step back, that is due to a jammed bullet that exploded. Arizona is the first assignment Stanyard has had since an eight year 'vacation' on Greenland.

I'm ready to start when you are. I actually have more time to post from December 30-January 2, as I'm off from work for most of that time.

I'd thought about playing Kathryn Petersen in this one, but I wasn't sure I could rebuild her right with the new rules.

Edward Rue's Breaking Point should be 56, not 46. It must be a typo.

I may try to get the first post up tomorrow. your characters won't need to be finalized for the first scene or two, so you still have some time.

Oh Dave, thanks for reminding me. None of you guys are in DG yet, and you don't even know it exists. This first scenario will introduce you to it. Provided you survive. :D

I corrected that Priest. I picked Stanyard as I have an anchor in that story and it gives me personally a more living character. No problems switching the DG background. It's a simple memory wipe.

Nothing to see here.

Background: Naturally talented and athletic Chaz's laid back attitude makes some people think he a bit of a slacker. In truth he engages deeply in his work, constantly studying the occult, strange phenomena and their effect on the human psyche. Recruited straight out of college, his work has given him his fair sharer of mental scares. It is not uncommon for him to push his own traumas back in favor of focusing on whatever the current case may be. His main role has always been the human element, reading people, understanding their motivations and persuading them. He considers his side arm a last resort and has put monumental effort into his martial arts training.
Motivations: 1. getting to the ''truth'' that he believes has been underlying all of his cases.
2. Self improvement
3.Providing for his Uncle
4.Over coming his own mental issues
5.Protecting innocents from what he believes to be a nefarious universe even if it means blinding them to the truth.

Equiptment: 1.Side-arm
2.Body armor
3.Camera with zoom lense

My background: I served as an undercover operative for the FBI infiltrating many different religious cults. I was able to set aside my "real" self and become like one of them. I've done it several times before throughout my career, and all were mundane if strange. At first this one seemed to be as well, but over time, something struck me really off. One day, I snuck into the restricted area of the compound, and saw something that defied comprehension. I was discovered and captured, and tortured for months Before the cult could sacrifice you however, Delta Green agents arrived and rescued you, killing your captives. You were offered a job, and for whatever reasons accepted.

Your first order was to give an edited version of the cult to your superiors in the FBI that omitted anything supernatural, because rule number one is not to tell anyone outside of Delta Green about the unnatural. You did so, and were instructed to continue your daily work until DG gave you a call and a new assignment.

After 6 months they found out and held me captive until delta green found me.

You guys seem to be coming along well; welcome.

A few notes for you both. First, the game takes place in 2000, so keep in mind that things are not quite as digital as they are now.

Second, decide how much experience with Delta Green your agent has. They can be a veteran of multiple operations or have just recently been recruited. Recruitment tends to happen because DG pulled strings to assign them to a case where they would encounter the Unnatural. Provided they survived and are still sane, they're given an offer to join. In some situations though your agent may be in the wrong place at the wrong time, see something unnatural, and either help to defeat it or cover it up. They're then given a choice to forget this happened or to join Delta Green.

Lastly, decide if your two agents know one another at all. I'm fine with you both having no prior knowledge, or you could have been part of an old cell that has been reorganized after a mission went wrong. When the game begins you'll both join S-Cell and meet the other players.

I still like the idea that my character has been in for a while- grabbed up straight out of college. I went ahead and picked one of the trauma scenarios you sent me and incorporated it into my char sheet. Havent quite figured out what that trauma was but I figure it haplened in the line of duty. Im cool with our characters knowing each other but Im happy either way. It looks like Lwunder hasnt filled out a background yet so if it helps to write me into it. My characters still pretty basic but I'll get a better idea who je is the more time I spend with him.

Sure thing. Think a little about what you studied in college, and why that might be useful to DG. Generally Delta Green tends to prefer recruiting agents from inside the government or positions of power, so it would be unlikely they'd bring you in beforehand as a full agent* But it's not impossible. Maybe one of Chaz's family or friends was a DG agent, and they asked for his help on an operation, and that led to his initiation. Or he could have been wrong place at the wrong time. Remember that DG is fully black; no one outside people in the know know it exists, and agents are expected to do their day jobs until they get a call from it. There's no paycheck either( though some agents do embezzle money and resources from cults they investigate, this is frowned upon.)

Also, I see Chaz only has one bond. This suggests a character who is either anti social by nature or has pushed most people away due to the horrors of his work. (You could have had the one who recruited him into Delta Green be an old family friend who has since been brutally murdered, if you wanted to go that route.) So think a little bit about why he has only one person who is important to him in his life, and what it says about him.

All just suggestions of course. I'm pretty much fine with whatever you decide, and I'll work to make it work. But hopefully this helps you and Lwunder out a bit.

Yeah I like the idea of a friend who passed away being the one to bring him in. I think his area of specialty revolves are psychological pursuits. I don't know exactly what he would've majored in but would have skills in reading people and influencing them. I gave him anthropology and occult because I picture him investigating rare and strange mental disorders, perhaps things that have plagued people for hundreds of years. I tried to give him just enough of a medicine score to imply that he would know about specific psychiatric medications. But now looking at it I might not have used enough points and maybe they should have gone into pharmacy. With all the focus on the mind stuff Im thinking maybe a psychiatrist who gets called in as a profiler for multiple criminal investigation organizations. I was originally going to have his only bond be his cat but I didn't like the idea of him losing his bond with his cat lol so I thought maybe he was orphaned young and raised by his uncle. The lack of other bonds being due mostly to being so involved in his work maybe having acquintances but no significant other or anything like that. Now thinking about it he probably also studied criminal investigations in school, maybe a professor who sometimes worked with the agency brought him in on a case? He couldve been a top student and the teacher brought some piece of evidence to him without any context but when Chaz started digging deeper and deeper he got wrapped up in the case and eventually the professor was killed trying to solve it so Chaz was determined to finish it. After that it was either silence him or bring him in.

Very nice. But I believe you still need to chose your bonds?

Anyway, when you're ready feel free to post in the main thread. Since everyone else is in the middle of a scene at the moment, I think it's best we assume your agent was largely quiet up until this point. Take the opportunity to introduce yourself to the team and we'll go from there.

Bonds:
1: His folks (12): Griff has always been close to his mom and dad. As they grow increasingly old and infirm, he worries, given his job, that one day he won't be around to help them.
2: Old EMS colleagues (12): Griff's old paramedic team forged strong bonds during their time together. While many have changed jobs, retired or got promoted, they still keep in touch and hang out from time to time.
3: [REDACTED] (Lost to hard experience.)

Background:
Griff grew up in a now-gentrified area of L.A. When he was a kid, gang violence was a day-to-day occurence. While he was streewise enough to keep out of it, he lost some close friends during those days and left school with a determination to make a difference.

Tough, surly and not academically gifted, he eventually qualified as a paramedic and learned the fundementals of emergency medical care the hard way through a never-ending cycle of shootings, stabbings and RTAs.

He was inducted into [REDACTED] in 1992, following the incident at [REDACTED], where he had been called in as a first responder.

Treating the terrible [REDACTED] exposed him to the secret world of [REDACTED] but also impressed [REDACTED], sending him on a new career path. Now he is tasked with providing medical care and support to [REDACTED] during their [REDACTED].

Motivations:
1: Save lives
2: Protect his friends and family
3: Work out and keep fit at the gym
4: Earn enough money to retire
5: Pay for his folks' care

Equiptment:
1: Sidearm (1d10 damage)

Andre Giger

Special Agent, Hostage Rescue Team, Federal Bureau of Investigation
Place of Birth: Alberquerque, New Mexico
Age: 31

The son of an Alberquerque PD detective, Giger graduated in Criminology from state university and applied for the FBI on graduation. His scores on academic subjects were acceptable, but he excelled at PT having been a football star at high school and university, and with firearms training and hand-to-hand combat. Posted to the El Paso field office, he preferred the adrenaline rush of busts and raids to the steady and mundane work of investigations, and so joined the SWAT unit, eventually applying to the elite HRT, where he has served for the last three years.

Giger is very focused on his job, spending what free time he has on physical training and martial arts, although he sometimes picks up a book. Not very social, he prefers the company of his HRT team mates, taking a somewhat dismissive view of ordinary agents. A big man, he tends to fade into the background in social occasions. He defers to more experienced agents regarding fieldwork, but takes the lead when the action starts.

He eagerly accepted recruitment into Delta Green, seeing the potential for even more action against foes more challenging than the average kidnapper or militia member.
