Henry - introductory thread

Upon entering your cabin you expect to see Hugo Bart there but he appears to be absent at the moment. You hurriedly unpack and make sure that you get the better of the two beds. As you sit and await Hugo's arrival you sit on the edge of your bed and ponder the night's events so far. Something is niggling at your keen mind and you struggle to put your finger on it. You were hurriedly shown to your cabin where by a harried, somewhat shabby looking crewman, who despite his wearing immaculately tailored uniform - well there is something about it that just isn't right. That's it! It was so ill fitting; it's as though it had been made for someone else.

Hugo - introductory thread

As you are being taken to your cabin you cannot but help notice that the trousers and jacket of your escorting crewman simply do not fit him, the trousers are too short and the jacket seems too tight across the shoulders. It seems jarring considering the opulence of the riverboat. You are glad when you are finally shown to the door of your cabin. Inside is a man who stands as soon as you enter and introduces himself as Henry Bole. You add your own introduction as you take his hand with a smile on both your faces. You ask for a moment to unpack.

Hugo's entry breaks your train of thought as you both make your introductions to each other, Hugo then lays his case on the remaining bed and asks for a moment to unpack.

Henry will wait patiently for Hugo to finish unpacking. While doing so his mind returns to the man in the ill-fitted suit.

How strange. Perhaps one of the crew couldn't make it at the last minute, and they had to find a replacement.
OOC:   Did I notice anything strange about the crew member that showed Hugo to our room, or was it the same guy?

OOC:   Henry, If you were looking you would have seen a different member of the crew, however the same observation about his attire applies.

Henry ponders his discoveries, and resolves to try to work this strange fact into conversation at the party.

Hugo and Henry

You both hear the muffled sounds of the jazz band tuning up their instruments and the crew casting off adding to the noise of the boilers taking up the strain and the paddle groaning into life as the boat moves away from the pier with a gentle roll. You check your watch and see that it is 7:45 precisely.

Henry informs Hugo that he is going to join the party.

"Just a minute Henry, I'll not be long." Hugo rushes to get himself ready quickly. Hugo feels slightly agitated that he felt that he was rushed back in the cabin - never mind though - let's not spoil what should be a grand night on the Thames. Together you both head downstairs and catch up with two women descending towards the reception area. From where you stand on the stairs you can see two men facing the women

You both see one of the young ladies look back at you before returning their gaze forward once more and saying; "Mr. Jackson!" she calls to one of the gentlemen on the bottom step. "Fancy meeting you here."

Henry never realizes that his impatience in the cabin was irritating to Hugo as he is too excited by the prospect of a party and talking about the mysterious crew members. While they are walking towards the party Henry asks, " What brings you to this party tonight Hugo? Do you know our host personally? His hope is that if Hugo does know Thaddeus Grant then he will be able to make an introduction for him.

"Well I cannot say that I have had that particular pleasure Henry. I work with a colleague that was supposed to be here but due to circumstances beyond his control he was unable to make it. I can only assume that the invitation fell to me as a result of this. What about you you, Do you know him at all?" Hugo asks with a smile as he nods towards the two women in front of them.

Henry Smiles at the two women as well before looking back to Hugo.
"That's funny. My invitation was actually originally meant for a colleague of mine as well, but he also could not attend because of personal reasons. I have actually met Mr. Grant once, but I wouldn't say that I know him very well."
Henry will then look around the party to see if he recognizes anyone. Maybe someone he met through Clifford or if Mr. Grant is anywhere to be seen.
