Return of the Halloween One-Shot

It began on Halloween Night in 1986. That was the day Roger Simmons challenged five kids to stay overnight in the Old Barnaker House. The night Darren Pickett's little brother Ian tagged along. The night Louis Ravensburger made a little friend. The night Harry Enslin went mad. The night Roger murdered his big brother Ace. The night five desperate children went in search of a creature of unspeakable evil in the tunnels beneath Northfield. In search of it. And somehow it ended. Four children walked out of the Barnaker House. It ended for them. And for Kyle Robards, and for Ian Pickett, and for Roger Simmons, and for Ace.

Or so they thought.

Halloween Night in 1987. A year since the events at the Old Barnaker House. Memories have faded. Things seem, fuzzier somehow. Did that, could that have even happened?

And here you are again, on Halloween Night. On the outskirts of an old amusement park. On Halloween Night. Didn't want to be called a chicken again...

And here you are. Something tugs at the back of your mind. A forgotten memory. This isn't right. You shouldn't be here. There's a metal arch over the front gate, topped by large, rusted metal letters. The remaining letters spell out 'UNLAND.'

-----

Unland is a 1980s set, classic Halloween-set one-shot adapted from a Scott Dorward scenario from Fear's Sharp Little Needles and following on from last year's The Dare Halloween one-shot set in the small Indiana town of Northfield. We'll continue to use the simplified Call of Kid-thulhu rules and you are welcome to bring back any of the surviving characters from The Dare, to create your own, or get a pre-gen. As with The Dare it is intended to be particularly suitable for novices and to continue the 1980s pulp horror vibe.

Any takers? Looking for four or so investigators.

As with The Dare, I'm particularly drawing on '80s kids movies like ET, Stand by Me, Goonies, and so on, but being Call of Cthulhu there's going to be the risk of or actual child death or harm, body horror etc.

So we have Harry and Darren returning. We'll do skill progression, a refresh on luck and sanity for returning characters. Philulhu, you're welcome to join us. Fresh meat for Northfield, Indiana. When we know who's playing you can think about a returning character, a pre-gen, or rolling your own.

Absolutely Snapper, you're welcome. I'll just give it a couple of days to see if anyone else wants to join in. Probably space for two more.
