Fahrenheit 32 - 1980

Post by Dave Syrinx »

Hi!
I´m considering adapting Fahrenheit, a game from 2005 by Quantic Dream, to a scenario set in 1980. Farenheit 32 follows several protagonists:
  • Lukas Cane, a data analyst, computer serviceman at Naser and Jones Bank, NYC.
Carla Valenti, a police lieutenant and detective inspector, NYPD.
Tyler Miles. a police sergeant and detective, NYPD.

Fahrenheit 32
"Things are never quite what they seem.
We think we understand the world around us but we really only see the outside. What it seems to be.
I used to be just like you.
I believed in humanity, the newspapers, soap commercials, politics and history books.

One day the world kicks you in the teeth and you don't have any choice but to see things the way they really are."

The scenario begins at Empire Diner, a Chelsea Diner, where the protagonists find themselves a snowy evening on January 27, 1980.

Other characters that will be viable for play are:
Name. A historian specialized in Mesoamerican civilization, on a mission from Miscatonic University, Arkham, MA.
Name. A used book collector and reseller, also an antiquarian.
Name. A homeless citizen of NYC.

With this angle, there are six characters to work with, where three is the minimum number of players.
I hope the changes I will be making in the scenario, people who have played the game will still enjoy this scenario.

Wow, interesting, sounds like a challenge to adapt, particularly the different role of a computer technician back in 1980.

And slowly the snow falls...

As if climate change hasn´t been around for the last decade and stirring up politics, it´s prevalent in Fahrenheit as well.
The last fourteen years have seen a gradual decrease in average temperature. Now, in 1979-1980, the winter months have been especially harsh. Snowfall has been more common than not, leaving the road maintenance crews many overtime hours. Scientists cling on to the notion that this is all part of natural fluctuations of the climate.
Environmentalists say that the lowered temperature is due to the use of nuclear pollution and radiation. Not to mention fossil fuel waste.
Religious factions claim it´s the End of it all.

Welcome to a chill 1980!

Then, I´ll set you up. Can you pick an actor as profile pic? I´ll create a tag-photo like the others.
Welcome to the cold streets of New York!

No disadvantage not having played the game. It will be a couple of days before the first scene will play out though. I need to prepare the events first.

May I join? I could do the used book seller. I'd have a go at Lucas except that my knowledge of '80s computer tech is zilch. (I had a VIC 20). I can't post a character until Tuesday though as I'm on holiday.

And welcome back to a game of mine! The rare and used book dealer is yours. I¨ll have a look-see at your character when you´d got back from the time off. Make sure to add a favourite band or music style.

Thanks for joining!
