Groovy Ghastly Affair; Romantic Horror in the 1960's

Whether or not you are familiar with the game system Ghastly Affair, the brilliant creation of Daniel James Hanley, I invite anyone who is interested to join me in an experiment, based on suggestions by Mister Hanley, in adapting this game to the Swinging Sixties.

The game system:

Notes on adapting this to the 1960's:

I would make use of some of these ideas, change some, add some of my own, and in general run a very loose game. I would be learning at least as much as the players.

The mood would be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, like a campy movie from the time period. The details of the plot would depend on what kind of characters take part.

I welcome all players. No experience necessary. We'll all walk each other through this.

Groovy! I'm watching Curse of the Crimson Cult (aka Curse of the Crimson Altar) right now, which came out in 1968. It's very fitting!

I'll be playing Liz North, descendant of Earl Henry and Countess Elizabeth North from Ghastly Affair. I'm leaning toward making her a Parapsychologist:

The notes didn't have an entry for it, but perhaps Secret Agent might be another archetype that fits the era, though one not usually connected with horror. That could be another subclass of Investigator.

Great minds think alike. I was definitely thinking of adding Secret Agent as a character type.

Thanks! I actually ran a game here that was set in the 1960s: Space Oddity, which took place (mostly) in Philadelphia in July 1969. It was heavily inspired by Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, and it ran from 2009 until around 2014 when all of the players stopped posting. It went great and really evoked the feel of the era, with plenty of humorous moments as well.

I'll be playing too. I like the idea of a descendant of Lila as a character perhaps but I'll see what occurs.

This sounds awesome! I'd like to play as well, if there's still an open slot! I will come up with a character soon.

Victoria is away for a day, Starspawn, but I'm sure she'll be pleased to welcome you when she returns - the game has not begun yet.

If one is going to be late, one might as well be fashionably late!

I promised myself that I'd only try to learn one RPG ruleset (CoC 7E), but the idea of a swinging sixties game is too much to resist (I've been listening to too much Alan Hawkshaw I think).

Is there room for one more? I've an idea for a playboy amateur detective, inspired by Jason King from the eponymous TV show, or Lord Brett Sinclair from The Persuaders (no doubt with a little Austin Powers thrown in).

So if you'll tolerate a complete newbie to Ghastly Affair, I'd be happy to pop open the claret and join the fun.
If I'm too late, that's absolutely fine too.

Please join us any time you are ready. It would be easy to add new characters, given the way things are shaping up.
