Name: Edge of Darkness
System: Call of Cthulhu 7th edition (free download: http://www.chaosium.com/call-of-cthulhu ... rules-pdf/ )
Setting: 1920s
Characters: 4-6

It's the year 1921 and in Arkham, Massachusetts, a group of strangers come together through their mutual acquaintance, a dying professor named Rupert Merriweather. They all know him in one way or another -- perhaps as friends, relatives, former students, or old colleagues. They have all received word that Professor Merriweather is not long for this world, and have been requested to visit him in St. Mary's hospital in Arkham, likely to hear his dying words...

So I've decided to try my hand at running a game through play-by-post. We'll be using the 7th edition of the CoC RPG, which has the added value of being free. The Edge of Darkness is a common introductory game for new players, so chances are good it's been played here before as well as elsewhere, so this is really meant for people who haven't played CoC before. This will also be my first time playing as a Keeper, so please keep that in mind as well.

Assuming there is enough interest, people will submit character sheets to me, making their rolls on Invisible Castle. Once we have enough players, we'll start the game in the hospital, meeting with Merriweather. Players will have time to introduce their characters but I want to keep a brisk pace so as to keep the game active. If things go well, I may run some additional adventures that the characters can continue in.

Additionally, I won't be allowing any characters that are crack shots, have incredible knowledge of the Cthulhu Mythos, or otherwise strike me as overpowered. The premise of CoC and Lovecraftian horror in general is that the characters are ordinary people thrust into extraordinary situations, beyond normal human comprehension. It's no fun if you don't stand a good chance of going insane and/or dying horribly :P

Also, if you're unsure of dealing with character creation, I'd be willing to make a character for you. Just give me an occupation and I'll give you stats.

Done and done. Mr. Bates is maybe a little old for 36, but we can say that all those years in the library and the politics of academia have taken their toll :P

Is there a particular character concept you have in mind? Or will any character do?

Ok, let's do this. Haven't played in awhile, just blew $50 on the new rulebook pdfs, this adventure better be cosmically yigcredible. 8-)

I'll have my investigator done my tonight or tomorrow.

(The rulebooks are half off right now, Cyber Monday FTW) :D

Hello? Anybody home in here? I hope this game isn't dead before it even started. If anybody is still alive out there, please respond.
