That's fine. People did dodge the draft, especially criminals living on false I.D. and stolen ration books. Alternatively, you could be underaged and a member of one of the many street gangs. You could even be a looter who goes into buildings when air raids begin (whether young or old) or someone who lives off stealing things from folks in the shelters. Or a regular thuggish sort. They were around too! :D The skies the limit. It's just the expectations of you that will change.
I think I'll go on the "underaged and a member of one of the many street gangs" type of character.
You can role that the older members of his gang joined the army and departed. Now comes the time to redeem :)

Sounds very interesting! I would like to participate, please.

My idea for an investigator is a young Lieutenant who has suffered a lower leg amputation and is bitter about his lack of ability to participate at the Front. He would use a prosthetic and cane to walk.

I've started generating my nurse character now. Name Florence Bryant. Am rolling up the stats in Invisible Castle at the moment, and will sort out the other things like skill points etc. over next few days.

I've more or less finished rolling up John Brooks. Did you mention something about a 'know London' skill?

There were a couple of odd things on the character sheet. Home Era probably doesn't need to be recorded (I"m guessing you copied it from The Terror Out of Time). First Aid also had a base skill of 36% listed instead of 30%, but I fixed it on mine. The firearms skills are also missing, but I wasn't going to take them anyway. I used the WVS occupational skills from the early draft of the monograph chapter you sent me years ago, except I left off Counselling as it wasn't listed on the character sheet. Is that skill still in or not? If it is, I might like to have it. I put hobby points into Craft and Psychology, as my EDU isn't so great.

Character creation rolls (STR, CON, POW, DEX, APP, SIZ, INT, EDU) (3d6=13, 3d6=7, 3d6=14, 3d6=8, 3d6=13, 2d6+6=14, 2d6+6=14, 3d6+3=12)

Background: Irene Carpenter is a tall, pretty girl with black hair and a positive attitude. She is always smiling, even when times are tough (which they are now more than ever), and she tries to cheer up others whenever she can. She was born in 1922 to Stanley and Meredith Carpenter. She has an older brother Oliver, who is 21 and was studying to be a doctor when the war broke out. Oliver immediately joined up and was commissioned a second lieutenant. His skills led to him being assigned as a battlefield medic. She also has a younger brother, Joshua, who is 15 and was evacuated to the countryside. However, Irene insisted on staying in London to help out however she could. Stanley is a carpenter from a long line of them (hence the name). He served in the Great War, and he joined up again when this war started. He is a combat engineer. Meredith joined the Women's Land Army.

Irene joined the WVS in late 1939 and is working as an ambulance driver. She has always loved cars and has a natural talent with them. Her driving skills, combined with her keen night vision and her excellent sense of direction, make her ideally suited for her job.

Yeah, I took the sheet out of yours. I didn't think Firearms were generally listed on the sheets unless you had them, anyway. Nice catch on the First Aid. Counselling is something I'm still dithering about, rules-wise. Navigate covers Know London. I'll go over these sheets in a couple hours.

Florence is a nurse originally from Norfolk but now working and living in London. She was intelligent at school, but unable to go on to university, and trained as a nurse instead, following a family tradition. Plain, almost ugly to be truthful, she is also somewhat clumsy and not very strong. But she is highly bright, and devoted to her job and helping patients, at which she is both experienced and competent. At the moment she works alongside ambulance drivers in wartime London. Florence is unmarried, never too successful at romance, and focuses on her work instead now. As a young girl Florence spent a lot of time combing the beaches and seashore around Cromer, and developed interests in natural history and related skills, as well as skills such as climbing and jumping developed from spending so much time out and about in the countryside exploring.

By the way, if your rolls don't match the stats you need, feel free to do it this way. Roll your 1d6s all at once and then assign each 1d6 to the various stats post-roll.

For example:

10D6 = 3, 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 5, 6, 6, 3, 4, 3, 4, 2, 5, 4, 3, 2, 4, 3, 5, 4

I'm building a bruiser so for Strength, which is 3D6, I pick 5 + 6 + 6 for 17. For Dexterity I pick 3 + 4 + 5 = 12. For Size I pick 6 + 3 = 9 (then add the +6 that is routinelly added to SIZE) for 15. For APP I pick 1 + 2 + 4 = 7 because he doesn't have to be pretty. For POW I pick 3 + 4 + 2 = 9. For CON I picked 5 + 5 + 4 = 14. For INT I pick 4 + 4 = 8 (then add the +6 that is routinely added there) for 14. Then I use the last 3 + 2 + 3 for EDU (then add the +3 that is routinely added) for a total of 11.

Basically, if you do it this way you don't need to worry about making a high APP, low STR character, and gain a bit more flexibility on what happens rather than just being able to swap the full 3d6s around. It's up to you if you find it useful or if there's too much math.

I just took the rolls as they fell, since I didn't know if it was okay to swap them and most of them were where I wanted anyway. I might have swapped STR for DEX, but it might be better this way. Having the high STR will help me move injured people who can't move on their own, and I don't think Florence will be able to do it. It's also nice to have a damage bonus.

So very true!

By the way, while The Bomb Shelter adventure has enough players, if anyone wants to play in a home front short adventure based around a Factory or even a personal psychological horror involving a couple of parents (or billetors) with their children (or evacuees) let me know. I can run a couple of different games here.

Just changed the home era in my sheet to 1941. I'm happy with my rolls. They're dire :) But they add to the character, and that's something I really like about Call of Cthulhu. And I reckon she can still have that occupation with these rolls, which is the main thing.
