[up and running] Vietnam -68 Feeling the darkness....

Post by Dave Syrinx »

It beckons to me.
Those things lost remain in the past. New goals lie ahead.

RIDERS ON THE STORM
Intro song (Hit play)working:
[goear]74b67a6[/goear]

Game theme lyrics:
Not to touch the earth
Not to see the sun
Nothing left to do, but
Run, run, run
Let's run
lets run

House upon the hill
Moon is lying still
Shadows of the trees
Witnessing the wild breeze
C'mon baby run with me
Let's run

Run with me
Run with me
Run with me
Let's run
The Doors, "Celebration Of The Lizard"

My plan is to run a game starting in Vietnam back in -68.
The exact location will be at Khe Sanh or Loc Binh. I will decide later when a squad has been selected.

What do I need from you? I need a name. And a role. Your age will be 19-21 giving your date of birth 1947-1949.
I will start the game in the end of February. Up till then I´m working on the prologue that is the arriving to Vietnam
and the forming of your characters.

What do you know?
The United States of America supports South Vietnam against the North Vietnamese army. It´s the cold war era and you
are either drafted or enlisted in the war. The rest will hit you later.

Assuming your characters survive the hills in Nam, the game will move to New York. Twenty years after the war. But that´s
another chapter.

Nam Squad

Role: Rifleman
Duties: Direct fire on targets, suppressing fire, maneuvering to hold terrain
Equipment: M-16 rifle, Mk 2 frag grenades, helmet

Role: Heavy Weapons Operator (HWO)
Duties: Direct fire and suppressing fire in support of maneuver
Equipment: M-60 LMG, helmet

Role: Heavy Weapons Support
Duties: Observation, Direct fire, carrying ammunition for the HWO
Equipment: M-16 rifle, lots of M-60 ammunition, binoculars

Role: Radio operator
Duties: Communications and repair
Equipment: PRC-25 radio, M-16 rifle

Should you like to play a female character
I can set you up as follows:

A nurse in one of the countless field medical
wards and surgical hospitals
the Medical Civilian Aid Program
(MEDCAP).
One the many media
representatives reporting the news from the front
lines regardless of the danger.

Those characters will be civilian in style but will be
drawn into the military angle in some way.

“Man, biologically considered, and whatever else he may be in the bargain, is simply the most formidable of all the beasts of prey, and, indeed, the only one that preys systematically on its own species”
William James

"Sir! Private Eric Whitehouse reporting for duty, sir!"

I'll decide on a role and age when I roll up my character and see my stats, but I'm leaning towards Heavy Weapons Support. I should have time to create my character this weekend. What happens if you roll higher than 15 for your EDU? Minimum age is EDU+6.

I'll be away at a convention from Thursday, February 23 through Sunday, February 26, but I may be able to post on the night of the 26th.

By the way, I can't get the song to play. When I click play, it just says "Status: end of playlist."

I´ll look in to the quirks of the character generation and post a step by step list when I get back from the cabin. Will error check the music.

Welcome, H!

Hi Syrinx.

I'm intrigued by this proposal and my "Riders on the Storm" is working..but then I've heard it plenty so it just starts up in my head when I think of it ;)

Anyways, if openings are still available, I'll be looking at the Character Creation Thread this weekend and sign up with a character if you are still looking for players...

I look forward to this challenge if you'll have me onboard....

Cheers!

You are welcome Pickman37. There are always place for volunteers doing their duty for their country :D .
The game, so far has one Heavy Weapons Support squad member. That slot is taken.
You may pick any of the others.

The character creation thread is not optimal, but I hope you get what I try to explain there.
Basically there are three things you must choose that give an idea what your character is about. You may rewrite
the descriptions as long as the gist is the same.
I´ll provide a pdf for a character sheet today.
Btw. The rules are a mash-up from various game systems with CoC at it´s core.
i.e: Carry, Tour of Darkness, Recon, No Contact, Shadow Warriors "Charlie Don´t Surf", DG-material.
I´m removing the autoplay youtube clip, but it was quite cool to have the rain start after a few seconds of reading.

"At ease, Private!"

You are welcome to Nam, Seon. Check out the character creation here!

At the moment there are a Sniper and a Radio Operator in the squad. Colonel Kreuter is not part of the squad - he will act as your XO on the base. See you over at the camp.

In need of a MEDIC. Any other role is possible too. You can combine roles in quite some ways.

Need a medic?

Sir, yes, sir!
I'm a smooth criminal and a neurotic lawyer with a crush on a pretty-boy author, and I'm being controlled by my creepy older brother (twice!) while I worry about not having a can opener.

Sure, set up a character and pick the career you like. Three steps, and some choices regarding your character´s mindset.
Kadael, you are most welcome to the battle field!

"Remember - expect everyone outside your squad to be a risk. Stick to your squad and you´ll be fine.", PFC Wallace shouts as he sets the heli down SW of the airstrip.
