Clarence Leatham's London Residence
Saturday, March 11th, 1893 - Around midnight
Clarence sat in a large comfortable chair near the fireplace in his study. Beside him a small side table with a full-bodied red wine from the Campania region of Italy - he had acquired a taste for the wine during his Mediterranean tours. Next to the wine was an opened letter from Alethea, she had written him from her extended honeymoon in America and was apparently having a great time exploring the former colony's big cities and went into great detail of all the things she had seen and what she had been doing. The chair faced a low window overlooking the Thames and if he listened closely he could make out the soothing sound of the river running its course through the city.
Just as Clarence began to drift he hear a small noise at the door.

Re: IC-Ep 1: A Sturdy Ship (Clarence Leatham)
Being jolted from his reveries, Clarence rubs his hand over his face as he stands, somewhat unsteadily. Having the ammount of wine he has had tonight was a mistake - he really should keep an eye on it.
He moved towards the door giving his head a slight shake to clear the slight fog that has settled down upon him. As he approaches the door he mutters to himself about the lateness of the hour and who could be calling at this time of night. As he enters the hallway he notices that he is moving a little freer as he heads towards the front door. Stopping in front of the door he reaches out for the door handle ...

Re: IC-Ep 1: A Sturdy Ship (Clarence Leatham)
The door creeks open and no one appears to be outside it. Clarence spends a moment looking and listening, but there is nothing to hear or see. Just as he moves to close the door he spies a small folded piece of paper with a rock on top of it next to his door. It appears to have his name on the outside along with another name, Julius Smith.
He recognized the name from the Oriental Club, he was one of the members that threw a small party for Alethea and her fiance when Clarence mentioned it back when his sister had first gotten engaged. It was quite a nice little affair, some members of the club rented out a restaurant with a small ballroom to dance after - though the party was ostensibly about Alethea and her engagement, Clarence got the impression that some of the younger members of the club were using it as an excuse to drink and have a good time - either way Alethea seemed to enjoy herself and that was what was important.

After looking both ways up and down his street, Clarence closes the door and reads the note. He recognises the name Julius Smith and hastilly opens the note and scans the contents.
Durward Street in the cesspool that is Whitechapel. Why would Julius be in Whitechapel, surely there is something afoot? If the man needed his help then he was honour and duty bound to go to his 'rescue' as it were. The fact that Julius has requested that he bring a gun indicates that it is a severe conundrum that Smith has found himself in.
Nodding to himself he goes and gets himself ready, ensuring that he takes both his gun and some spare bullets. He goes out into the cool night in search for a cab to take him to 5 Durward Street.

Clarence manages to get into a late cab after collecting his gun and heads off to Whitechapel.
