IC

The player characters are agents of a secret conspiracy within the U.S. government known as Delta Green. The Group (as it is known) has pulled some strings within the agents' day jobs to get them sent to Afghanistan, and now they have a mission. DG's insistence on operational security means that the agents know next to nothing about what they're doing other than: Collect intelligence, and, if a supernatural threat exists, end it.

When you talk to Price he seems relieved. "Thank god. I thought before that I was going crazy with what I saw in the cave, but if its true that there are people out there fighting things like it then I'll gladly help." You both feel somewhat disheartened by his enthusiasm, given the horrors you witnessed recently. For the rest of your time at FOB Turner Price treats you two and Alex with a kind of reverence.

A few days later a jet passes over the American base heading in the direction of Khali Gati. Not long after there is an explosion in the distance and for a time you are satisfied to know that that accursed place no longer exists. A couple days after that the news reaches you that the village that was destroyed was in fact not Khali Gati. You remember the way that the valley disrupted your electronics and compasses, and assume that that must have caused the pilot's equipment to malfunction as well. The only question that remains is, do you try to destroy the village again or keep your heads down and wait to be extracted from FOB Turner?
OOC:   That luck roll was for the airstrike, but you had to roll a critical success to destroy the right village.

"If we're going to deal with Khali Gati," says Craig, "we'd have to go in on the ground with overwhelming force. We should see whether DG wants it done or is fine with just our finding Ellis."
OOC,That 17 would have done it if it had been the highest POW instead of the lowest. And we wonder why so many Afghanis hate us...

"Damn," Tyner says. "More innocents killed. I don't think we can chance another air strike. If ground troops are coming back here, they'll need plenty of preparation to deal with this. We need to report back to HQ."

So you guys make a call to your handlers and tell them that you believe sending in ground troops would be the best option. They respond by informing you that the Program doesn't have any resources left in the area, and that there the village itself was not as high a priority as the information Ellis so that will have wait until a later date. Your official orders are to stand down until you are extracted from FOB Turner, do you follow these orders or do something else?
OOC:   Also please make a San Check for the destruction of the wrong village. This is a helplessness check.

san loss = 1d6, I think?[dice]1[/dice]
Tyner is extremely upset by the unnecessary loss of life. He can't help thinking that it's all his fault. By the time he answers HQ and agrees to follow their recommendations he's openly weeping. He's failed to live up to the Hippocratic Oath.

Craig is also wracked with guilt, mentally beating himself up for his failure. He follows the orders and stands down, especially since he's afraid anything he does now will make things worse.

You both spend the rest of your time at FOB Turner in quiet sadness, desperately waiting to be extracted. You eventually leave the base. Maybe you are sent home. Maybe you are sent on another mission for Delta Green. Either way you spend the rest of your life, however long that might be, trying to forget each other and Khali Ghati.
