Ladies Rest Room

Watch your step as you explore this dimly lit and disturbing railway station and its buildings beneath the bomber's moon.

Ladies Rest Room

Post by Laraqua »

This room has a sour smell that is quite unpleasant and mingles with the stench of cheap perfume and rancid butter. The room itself appears clean, almost crisp, with well-scrubbed tiles and gleaming porcelain. You sort of need a sit down, though. Your head is starting to spin. There's a little statue of a grinning corpulent thing with a lion's mane sitting on the window sill and flanked by two vases full of dry and brittle flowers. Is the statue's belly glowing? Simply looking at it is starting to give you a headache. Perhaps you really should sit down.

Places to Go:
Examining the statue, the statue has recess currently holding a beeswax candle and due to the rather lumpy nature of its rather porous stone the light is leaking out. It's also quite heavy, more than expected, and has a mashed up face full of what appear to be maggots or writhing snakes and its paws have animalistic faces carved out of each claw. 0/1 Stability loss.
Chemistry Knowledge, the distinctive smell of rancid butter is actually Butyric acid which is a fatty acid occurring in the form of esters in animal fats. It's a medium-strong acid when undiluted that reacts with bases and strong oxidants, such as many metals. It is an oily, colorless liquid easily soluble in water, ethanol and ether and often used in food and perfume additives, and even as a fishing bait additive. Inhalation of butyric acid may result in soreness of throat, coughing, a burning sensation, and laboured breathing. Ingestion of the acid may result in abdominal pain, shock, and collapse. Physical exposure to the acid may result in pain, blistering and skin burns, while exposure to the eyes may result in pain, severe deep burns and loss of vision.
Art or Photography Knowledge,While it is easy enough to put a candle within a recess behind the statue, there is something odd about the glow that seems almost as though it where shining through orange coloured glass rather than porous stone.
Art History or Anthropology Knowledge,The statue appears to be of a particularly grotesque guardian lion which traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces, Imperial tombs, government offices, temples, and homes of government officials and the wealthy. They are traditionally carved from decorative stone, such as marble and granite, or cast in bronze or iron. They have become more popular of later. It certainly doesn't appear to be in the British style as there is no emphasis on its musculature at all.
Geology or Astronomy Knowledge, the statue is made from a meteorite and the glow reminds you of a freshly fallen rock still hot from the atmosphere. Impossible, though.
Occult or Anthropology Knowledge,Chinese lions are always presented in pairs, a manifestation of yin and yang, and there should be a cloth ball under the right front paw if male, or cub under the left paw if female, and this statue has neither of these details. The placement at the window is also highly suspect as it is gazing inwardly to the room as though guarding the outside world from this room. Of course, there's every chance that this is just a local artist's rendition and a local station master's choice of placement and neither of them know much at all about Chinese lions. It certainly doesn't appear to be in the British style as there is no emphasis on its musculature at all.
Architecture Knowledge,This room has been recently refurbished within the past few years (1 point spend available.)
Is it bad that I listen to this about ten times a day?
