Chit-Chat

Several people arrive at the Appledown Train Station eager to be on the last train north to Ashford. Unfortunately nothing is at seems and everything goes downhill from there.

Here we will be able to talk about various bits-and-bobs as we go onward to victory, or, well, madness and defeat. Either works just as well. :D Should be an interesting time ahead.

Think also about how you will get to the train station considering petrol rationing. It's not a big deal, but the little bit of flavor will matter. It is a long walk to the train station, but certainly okay by those days' standards if you don't have more than a suitcase. You could potentially catch a ride in someone's horse and buggy, but no one will waste petrol taking you there if they can help it (fuel rationing). There's one taxi (well, a local car that acts as taxi), but JimJam will be using it since she's transporting some heavy stuff. There's space for one other in there, but it'll be a tight squeeze. For those who live there, you could borrow a friend's bicycle and they could be willing to pick it up the following day.

I could squeeze into the car with Ilona. Failing that, I could always borrow a bicycle.

Cool, so Ilona can be in the car with Mr. Handy's nurse.

Forgot to mention it's worth roughing out equipment. Here's the basics anyone can be expected to have on a journey:

Cash
House Keys
Identification
Handbag or Wallet
Watch or Pocket Watch

Frequent additions:

Letters, notepad, pen, flashlight (due to the blackout), gas mask in a cardboard case (technically everyone should have one but they won't), ARP (Air Raid Precautions) warden / WVS (Women's Volunteer Service) badges. Work-based equipment -- doctor's bag or first aid kit, case of paintings, toolkit, etc.

Feel free to have something cool that I can work with (bizarre silver statuette purchased from an Egyptian bazaar) or that might interest other characters if they loot your pockets upon your death (telegram from your dead uncle).

Private message is probably best, or just add it as a spoiler to your sheet if you know how to do so. :) Just in case there's cool stuff....

Hi Laraqua, is it still possible to add a character on the 4th June, as you mentioned in the recruitment thread.

I dug out my Trail of Cthulhu rulebook, but I've not gotten into the head of the vicar character.

I've got a couple of alternative ideas that I can get into better, so I'll sort a character to add in when you're ready - or just play without me if 4th June isn't an option. :)

Sorry to be a pest. It's a Holiday weekend here and I'm determined to get Masks going before I'm back at work on Wednesday (hopefully today), but once that's going I'll be able to sort my investigator.

Hey, it's all good. 4th of June as initially promised is fine, heck, might even get an extra few days depending on what people get up to.

And there's a few pre-gens you could run following that date worse comes to worse....

I am about to post my character for review, and being new to the forum I wanted to make sure I understand how the spoiler-button and dice and such worked, and this seemed like the best place to do it.
Test,Ta Da!
**Much better! Thanks. **

Spoiler:
Hopefully this will be hidden

You need to put the comma after Testing Spoiler if you want a spoiler-button to work. What comes before the comma becomes revealed on said button, what comes after the comma hides until the button is pressed. The dice are just weird. It's only ever a 1D6 here, though, just so you know.

Welcome RhinoRat - and looking forward to writing with you!

Playing catch up here after the weekend away playing in Enfilade 2016!

Here are a few links to some of the photos others posted from the weekend:
http://miniatureinsurrection.blogspot.c ... undup.html

and the one I painted figures for...and got to play in ... great time!

http://dotsofpaint.blogspot.com/2016/05 ... -game.html

As to the HP Lovecraft Film Festival, the gentlemen I was talking to at one of the games (In Her Majesty's Name - think of Hollywood inspired miniatures - we were playing a tomb of the mummy adventure in teams with each team member having three characters so six for a team. Then there were four teams...an American Archeaology Team, a Cultist Team, a German Team, and an Egyptian Team. If you got the Mummy's necklace out of the temple, your team instantly won. Well that didn't happen, but then you go to points - miniatures captured, points found, etc. We had a four way tie at the end...with each team having seven points.

The former organizer of the Lovecraft event said it had been going on for many, many years. It is held in an old, historic theater that was one of the Portland, Oregon's grand theaters in the 1920s. What a theater! Here is what I just took a look at: http://hollywoodtheatre.org/about/mission-history/
Sounds like a great event. I am going to learn more about it and maybe attend it this year, or next!

Ok, off to a long day of meetings. BUT, end the day with my 8th grader's band concert, so that is really cool.

Oh nice collection of miniatures, and some really impressive terrain there. I've always wanted to invest in some good terrain for various tabletop RPGs but found storage such a pain. The location looks pretty cool, too.

And what does your 8th-grader play?

Definitely some nice looking figures and scenery. Do you play frequently?
Do you do the painting yourself?

Another question....what am I doing wrong with the "Img" button? I tried to get a picture in one of my posts and it didn't work.

"And I should test Font colors while I am at it", he said with a grin.

I actually painted a set for the Bordino battle - but um, painting 1812 Russians is not my skill set! I play at least once a year, but I live in a small rural, remote town that doesnt have a large gaming especially miniature gaming group. Working on that but so far not a large group. If i can, I try to play this type of game a few times a year which requires a drive of about three hours to one of the larger cities to a day long event.
And what does your 8th-grader play?
Laraqua - concert went well, my son plays the trumpet and tonight he also was the MC for part of the all grades concert. They really did a great job. Lots of fun.

GAME QUESTION - so in the mens room - I have Art History with a 1, so do I spend that one point to study pamphlet and then no longer have that point? Sorry rule book has not arrived yet.

Yep, you've got the long and short of it. Libraries and reading rooms can give you access to floating points anyone in the group can use, and you may have the opportunity to refresh a few skills later on. If you spend the point, you have happened to research more deeply into that particular topic. If you don't spend it, or you have no more, than it's just outside of your knowledge though I'm happy for you to recognise that there *is* something more to it and to seek out other experts. There are *a lot* of things you can spend points on, more in this game than most, as the adventure is a bit more sandbox-y (if in a small sandbox) than a straightforward investigation. Thus more clues and fewer core ones. Don't worry, though, you can still read things labelled as Art History knowledge even if you have no points left, so long as you had it once.
