I have been playing RPGs since 2015. Mainly Pathfinder/Starfinder as PbP. I am interested in learning Call of Cthulhu and am looking for a table to play at.

Welcome, Tyranius! I'm running Zombie Apocalypse, which is a modern non-Mythos game using the CoC rules. It's still early in Chapter 2, so you could easily play characters that were just added at the start of the chapter. The game is currently stalled due to lack of time on my part, but I hope to get it moving again. There's also The Masque of Nyarlathotep, which takes place in southern France in 1517. It's early in Episode 2, but Episode 1 isn't too long to read, and you'd only need to read the parts where your character has been present. I could use someone to take an abandoned character. It's the sixth adventure in my Doctor Who/Call of Cthulhu campaign, but you don't need to know anything about Doctor Who or the first five adventures to play. You're free to read the previous adventures, of course.

That would be great. I am up for either one of those.

You'd be welcome to join both if you like. It may be a long time before I have time to get Zombie Apocalypse going, but feel free to select characters if you like. The Masque of Nyarlathotep has been stalled, but I should have time to get it going this weekend. The forger Jean Luc is available to play, or you could create a new player that I can introduce if you prefer.

You'd be welcome to join my games too. Jean Luc could still use a replacement player.

You're welcome. Zombie Apocalypse (which is currently stalled, as I haven't had the time to run it), and The Masque of Nyarlathotep. Brief descriptions and links are further up this thread.

Which characters are available in Zombie and I'm.happy to.play Luc, which threads should I read? There's quite a few, don't want to spoil myself.

Good idea. You're in fact only allowed to read In Character threads if your character is in them, with the singular exception of Introduction. Jean Luc has less catching up required than the other characters would in The Masque of Nyarlathotep. After the adventure is over, you may then read everything. For Jean Luc, you should read the following threads in the following order (each thread, at the end, has links to direct you to the next):

Episode 1: The Duc's Court->Be My Guest->Surprise Guest->The Mystery Deepens->Time Is an Illusion, Lunchtime Doubly So->Lost
Episode 2: Found->Mysteries->The Armory->Lost and Found->Late for Dinner (the current thread)

Once you've caught up, you may start posting in Late for Dinner whenever you are ready. Welcome aboard, and have fun!

Zombie Apocalypse's Chapter 2 subforum has the character sheets, which show which ones are available here. Any characters that are not Played by Keeper or marked in green as played by a player is available (though some players are gone). I'd recommend choosing characters from Chapter 2, almost all of which are unclaimed and have next to no catching up required. You should choose them from different sections. I can't guarantee when or if I'll have time to resume running it, but you may as well claim your characters now.

How do you play a dog?🤔😁

It's a different experience. One player did play one of the dogs in the previous run of this game. You can't speak or use weapons, and you won't have most of the human skills, but you have other things to make up for it, such as your sense of smell. You'd just have to communicate with humans the way dogs normally do, such as by barking, wagging your tail, and that sort of thing. You'd understand what the humans are saying. You basically play a dog the way you'd play any other character, but within those limitations. You would describe what you do, optionally describing your doggy thoughts, and I'll describe the results and possibly ask for dice rolls.

Ahh, sounds fun. Sorry for all the questions by the way....here's one more: The characters marked indefinitely insane are they off the table?

No, they're still available, but you might not want them, as they already have a long-term insanity that will last for at least a month and have lost at least 20% of their starting Sanity. Only if they hit 0 Sanity (permanent insanity) would they no longer be available. Or if they died. Of course, those characters would all be survivors of Chapter 1, and you'd need to do a lot of catching up to play them. The newly added characters are in the bottom post of the character sheets thread (there are over thirty of them), and they haven't been nearly so traumatized yet. You should avoid taking over any characters that have been bitten, for reasons that may be obvious if you're familiar with zombies. The characters' HP totals show each injury. Of course, those would also be Chapter 1 characters as well. None of the new characters have been bitten yet.

Sorry, me again 😳 Should I only read the chapters concerning my characters?

Yes, that's right. Also, you may only read those parts of the threads that have your character in them. It will save you reading time, and it keeps up the suspense. You can find a series of hyperlinks for each surviving character here, along with lots of other useful information.
