Newcomer Looking for a Game

Post by Cyberpunk »

Hey! i am new to Call of Cthulhu but an enormous fan of the Mythos. I have played Dungeon and Dragons 3.5 and Pathfinder but I have not yet had the opportunity to try CoC. So I am searching for a game to join. If any of you have suggestions, please say so, and thanks!

Welcome, Cyberpunk! I'm running three games, and you'd be welcome to join any or all of them. Zombie Apocalypse is modern (though non-Mythos). It's been running for almost six years, but it has only recently entered the second day of game time. Chapter 7 started several months ago, but you could join in without too much catching up. Several recently added pregenerated characters are available, and/or you can create one or two of your own. There's always room for new players in this game, and there's even more now since several long-time players had to drop out.

Space Oddity is set in 1969 Philadelphia and inspired by Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes. It's been running for three years now. Several abandoned characters are available, and you could take one of them over or make your own character. Right now there are only three active players, one of whom just joined, and a fourth player will be creating a new character.

My Doctor Who/Call of Cthulhu campaign samples a variety of eras. The first game, The Terror Out of Time, took place in 1930 London, but it finished last August. The second game, The Ninth Planet takes place on Pluto in 2112, and it is currently underway. We're well into Episode 3. There are several abandoned characters you could take over if you want to join, but you can't create your own character in that one. The third adventure, The Shadow Over Dunwich, will probably start this summer. It's a UNIT adventure set in 1985, and you'd be able to make your own character in that one. It's set in Dunwich, England.

I am interested in both Space Oddity and The Ninth Planet. For which one would you prefer a new member?

You can play both games if you like. If you only want to join one, you should join whichever one you want to play more. I could use new players in either game.

I'll be joining both! I am going to look over the game specific forums to do some reading. Thanks for the opportunity!

Are there any roles needing feeling in the Space Oddity campaign or could my concept be anything fitting with the setting?

You're welcome, and have fun!

While there are many abandoned characters in Space Oddity, you're free to create your own. Your concept can be anything that fits the setting (1969 Philadelphia, though you don't need to be from the city; you just have to be there currently).

For The Ninth Planet, you'll need to choose an abandoned pregenerated character. The Cast of Characters thread contains the cast list and character sheets. Any of the characters listed as MIA is available.

For The Ninth Planet I'd like to pick up Private George Bond.

For Space Oddity I'll try to do something along the lines of a professor.

Are there any suggested readings for both campaigns?

In the Ninth Planet, you'll need to read the other sticky threads at the top (for new characters). You also need to read George Bond's IC threads, but you are not allowed to read the IC threads that don't involve your character, with the sole exception of the Introduction thread in Episode 1. George starts in Pluto Rocks, and there are hyperlinks at the end of each thread that will lead you to the next one. After Pluto Rocks, you'll read The Blue Enigma. Then you'll go to Episode 2, where you'll read The Mystery Deepens, Preparations, and Reverse Engineering. Then in Episode 3, which is in the main forum for The Ninth Planet, you'll read Pyrrhic Victory, Simulation Terminated, Evacuation, and Holding Pattern. Holding Pattern is George's current thread, but I'm planning to start a new thread into which he'll be moving tonight if I have time. You'll also need to read George's secrets, which I'll send you in a PM. Once you've caught up, you can start posting in your IC thread whenever you're ready.

A professor can work out nicely for Space Oddity. The University of Pennsylvania is one of the important locations in the game, so it would be best if you work there. The only thing you should read there is the Character Creation and Discussion thread, which is where you can work on your character, and the OOC thread (The Groovy Psychedelic Chit-Chat Lounge) if you like. Again, don't read the IC threads for the other characters.
