New player looking for a game

Post by Cyreav »

I am new to the Call of Cthulhu RPG but have been a fan of Lovecraftian Horror for years. Previously, I played DnD 3.5 and Pathfinder. I am currently searching for a game. Is anyone looking for more players?

Welcome, Cyreav! I'm running three games, and you'd be welcome to join any or all of them. Zombie Apocalypse is modern (though non-Mythos). It's been running for over five and a half years, but has only recently entered the second day of game time. Chapter 7 started a few months ago, but you could join in without too much catching up. Several recently added pregenerated characters are available, and/or you can create one or two of your own. There's always room for new players in this game, and there's even more now since several long-time players had to drop out.

Space Oddity is set in 1969 Philadelphia and inspired by Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes. It's been running for close to three years now. Several abandoned characters are available, and you could take one of them over or make your own character. Right now there are only two active players.

My Doctor Who/Call of Cthulhu campaign samples a variety of eras. The first game, The Terror Out of Time, took place in 1930 London, but it finished last August. The second game, The Ninth Planet takes place on Pluto in 2112, and it is currently underway. We've recently completed Episode 2 and are well into Episode 3. There is at least one abandoned character you could take over if you want to join, plus a couple more who were taken over in January but whose players haven't showed up yet, but you can't create your own character in that one. The third adventure, The Shadow Over Dunwich, will probably start this summer. It's a UNIT adventure set in 1985, and you'd be able to make your own character in that one.

The The Ninth Planet sounds interesting and that is the one I would like to join. For that I'll create my own character. Thanks! Which rulebook does it use?

Welcome aboard, then! However, I did mention that you cannot create your own character in The Ninth Planet. You'd have to take over an existing character. You would need to do some back reading, but it is managable. Private Alison Silver, a security officer, has been available for a long time. The player of computer specialist Private Sofia Torres hasn't posted in a long time, so you could have her if you like. Also, the player who were supposed to take over geologiist Edward Barrett never started posting for him after two weeks of waiting, and the player who took over security officer Private Robert MacCrimmon only posted for him once even longer ago than that, so I'll make both of them available as well. Private George Bond's new player disappeared weeks ago, so he's up for grabs too (he's an engineer). Which character would you like?

The game uses 6th Edition rules, but if your rulebook is older it shouldn't be a problem. It hasn't changed all that much.

Ups, my bad eyes, I read can instead of can't. I will begin with the required reading tonight. In regards to the characters, can I send you a private message once I have done the reading regarding my choice?

You can, but it's easier just to announce your choice either in a reply to this thread or in The Zero Room, the OOC chat thread for The Ninth Planet. I've already validated you so that you can post in the games. Once you've made your selection, I'll send you your character's secrets in a PM. When you've read those and caught up on your character's threads, you'll be free to post in your character's current IC thread whenever you're ready.

You are not allowed to read the IC threads where your character isn't present, with the sole exception of the Introduction thread in Episode 1 (though once the game is complete, you'll be able to read the whole thing). Therefore, you should choose your character first and then read that character's threads so far. You can find the character sheets in the Cast of Characters thread near the top.

I will be leaving for a convention in less than 20 hours, and I won't be back until Sunday night, so I may not be able to reply to your posts after mid-afternoon (Eastern U.S. time) tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum. I'm not running any games, but I like your various smiley faces.
I'm a smooth criminal and a neurotic lawyer with a crush on a pretty-boy author, and I'm being controlled by my creepy older brother (twice!) while I worry about not having a can opener.
