[IC - LA] The Los Angeles Times (Holly, Chris.)

A decade ago, a band of occult investigators battled against the summoning of an ancient and monstrous evil. They failed. Now you must piece together the puzzle and finish what they could not. The stakes are high, and so is the price to pay. Can you do it?

"And here I was trying to be nice," says Holly. "After that rudeness, I wouldn't feel so bad if I were to make you talk. However, that might not even be necessary. Any private detective worth his salt keeps good notes."

"Thank you for you consent," says Holly, grinning back. She feels less compunction about her idea now. She nods to Christopher. "We should probably all go some place private." She knows that scopolamine has often been used in conjunction with opioids as a form of anesthetic to put a patient into twilight sleep, and she is also aware of studies about its potential use as a truth serum. It did have side effects, one of which was memory loss of things that happened shortly before exposure, so it was possible he wouldn't even remember being questioned or even this entire encounter, and it would also cause drowsiness. She is confident that her medical and pharmaceutical knowledge will allow her to administer the proper dosage.

Christopher Fontana

Christoper pockets the man's ID and cash, he can always give it back later or not, depending on how things panned out. Holly had a good point about keeping records - they could go and search Pizner's house for anything that would indicate who his client was. Christopher was concerned about how quickly they had been tracked down, how could that happen? Someone at one of the places they'd been to find information must have put Pizner onto them or, more likely, been in touch with the person or people employing Pizner. Christopher and Holly had to try and find out who is after them and also find a way to keep Pizner 'out of the picture' for a few days.

Christopher jabs Pizner in the ribs again "I warned you about your foul mouth." he says. "Well, Pizner] I can see your mind is made up... " he mimes pushing the plunger of a syringe with his left hand so that Holly can see it "... I doubt we could persuade you to inform on your client... perhaps there is a deal to be done.."
OOC:   Jab him here - we can man-handle him out of th car and onto the back-seat, then go over to his house and see what we can find.

Holly nods and takes her prepared sedative out of her medical bag, with which she injects Pizner. "Pleasant dreams," she says in a sweet tone.

Pizner reacts violently at the injection: "What did you inject me... bitch... I'm gonna kill you! Fuck...", he struggles, but Christopher manages to restrain him until the sedative kicks in and he falls unconscious. You then move him on the back seat and plan your next moves.
Spoiler:
OOC:   Where do you want to take him?
Holly can prepare that truth serum, but most likely doesn't have all the things she needs in her bag. I'd ask for a 1-point Bureaucracy or Streetwise spend to get the "ingredients" (depending if you want to go legal - Bureaucracy - or illegal - Streetwise - in the process). Plus, a 1-point Pharmacy spend to make sure the serum is properly produced, as this is definitely not everyday work for Holly.

OOC:   The goal would be to get him into the back seat - and drive over to his house - we have his address and presumably door-keys. I don't know if it's worth trying 'truth serum' at the moment but we will probably need to do something to get Pizner off our backs (I have an idea) If anyone asks... "ohh .. well our friend is a bit 'worse for wear' I'm afraid..." intimating that Pizner is ill or drunk (even at this hour).

Oh, if Holly is confident that Pizner is out of it for over half an hour or so then they take both cars (Christopher driving Pizner's vehicle).

"He should be out for a while," says Holly after Pizner falls unconscious. "If we can't find his notes, there may be another way to get the information out of him. I feel kind of bad about abusing my medical skills to do this, but I don't feel quite as guilty considering his attitude. There's a drug called scopolamine. It's used in conjunction with opioids as a type of anesthetic, but it doesn't render the patient fully unconscious. It puts him in a kind of twilight sleep. It has another potential use: as a truth serum. There have been studies on it, but they stopped doing them because of the side effects. It won't kill him, but it can cause short-term memory loss in addition to drowsiness. That's probably a good thing if we have to use it. I don't think I have everything I need in my bag, but as a doctor I can get it. I can take my car to do that and then meet you where you're going. We may not need it, but it's better to be prepared."
OOC,I was thinking along the same lines. We can also wear surgical gloves while we're in his house to prevent leaving fingerprints. I'll spend 1 Bureaucracy and 1 Pharmacy.

Spoiler:
OOC:   So the plan is: Christopher will take Pizner to his (Pizner's) house, where he'll wait for Holly to gather the necessary ingredients and reach him. Then you'll search the house and carry out the interrogation. Is that right?

OOC,Yes, but Chris doesn't need to just wait around for me. Once he secures Pizner, he can start searching the house before I get there.

The address for Pizner's house leads Christopher to a poorly kept bungalow in Hollywood. The man is still sound asleep when he gets there, and after checking to make sure that the area is as empty as possible, Christopher carries him inside. It's small, and slightly stinky. Christopher drops off Pizner on a chair and starts looking around. The search doesn't lead to anything useful: some guns, plenty of booze, and a stash of relatively tame pornography. Either Pizner doesn't keep any record of his investigations, or those records are not here.

Ten or fifteen minutes later, Holly joins him. She has gathered all the necessary ingredients, and can now prepare the truth serum. Pizner is still asleep, but looks like he's starting to regain consciousness.

"I'll get it ready," whispers Holly. "Can you keep my 'patient' company?"
OOC,Is Pizner tied to the chair? Some rope or handcuffs (if Pizner owns a pair) would do the trick nicely, but belts would work in a pinch.

There are no ropes, but you find a pair of handcuffs to block its hands behind the chair, and a couple of belts for the legs. Holly finishes to prepare the truth serum, and judges what might be the correct dosage. Pizner is just about waking up when Holly injects him with the serum. He has the time to regain consciousness and throws around a couple of insults and curses, before the serum kicks in and he falls silent, looking around with a dumb smile on his lips.

"Mr. Pizner. who is your client?" Holly asks calmly. People under the influence of scopolamine are said to simply answer any questions put to them, bypassing their brain's capacity for deception. She hopes it will work that way here.
