OOC Chat

A decade ago, a band of occult investigators battled against the summoning of an ancient and monstrous evil. They failed. Now you must piece together the puzzle and finish what they could not. The stakes are high, and so is the price to pay. Can you do it?

OOC Chat

Post by Overlord87 »

Ok, I've sent a pm to the players that need to finalize their investigator. I also need to determine definitely who is gonna play (carnage_lee and Quatermass are being very nice in passing the playing spot one another, probably even too much :D ). But anyway, we're almost ready. I'm thinking of starting the game by tomorrow if we can, or monday-tuesday at latest, if no one has objections :D

carnage_lee can have the spot. I am readying a new game so that should take up my time. I will be a reserve if someone else drops out though.

Tomorrow is good to me.

I have to say that at the weekends I'm usually a little absent from internet, being a dad. During working days I can be online a lot more cause I have a really relaxed schedule at work.

Ok guys, we're practically set. I just need a brief physical description or an image/picture of the investigator from carnage_lee, laitang and TheLibrarian. Then I'll put your characters in The Investigators topic.

I'll send each of you a private message today or in the next couple of days. It will give you the informations needed to write a little "prologue to the prologue" for your character, that you'll use to describe how your investigator received an invitation to a meeting and his/her thoughts/reactions/sensations/etc.. It could work also to introduce one or more of your sources of stability, if you like. Perhaps describe a brief scene from your investigator everyday life. Feel free to invent but keep it short (two-three paragraphs at most). Once you're done, send that back to me and I'll collect them all in a single topic. Then we'll start with the real prologue and all the characters together ;)

P.S. I'll add an [EL] tag to any PM I sent related to the campaign so you can identify them easily ;)

Ok, we're officially starting ;) The first IC topic is up (The Invitation is just for you to read, but the campaign begins with The Hangar).

Use this conversation to define your investigator's style. There are obviously clues to be gathered here. A simple dialogue is sufficient, but you might also want to reinforce your investigator's approach by using interpersonal abilities.

For all of you that only have the quickstart rules, feel free to ask me clarifications on your investigative abilities. If you're in doubt, I can define to you exactly what you can or can't do with a particular ability.

Did anyone put pts into Cryptography?

If so perhaps it'd be worth looking at the notes on the letters?

If i am not wrong, none of you has the ability.

Luckily, you are in Boston and not some God-forgotten village in wild Africa. Therefore I will allow you to search for a specialist. It will require some spends, though.

A 2 point spend of Library Use or Oral History to locate a specialist available.

A 1 point spend in Credit Rating AND 1 point spend in Bureaucracy to get to meet said specialist in a couple of days max (that is, before your trip to Georgia).

Otherwise you will have to ask directly to Douglas Henslowe.

Discuss it in the IC topic and if you wish to proceed, tell me who performs the spends ;)

It's a good idea, and we may want to do it before we leave for Georgia. We have seven points of Library Use between us and five of Oral History, but Library Use is probably more generally useful. Whoever has three points in one of those should probably spend at least one of the points. Can we split the spends between different people?

Two of us have Credit Rating 3 and Bureaucracy 1. I actually have points to satisfy all of the spending requirements, but I think it's better to spread the spends around so we get more back when we refresh. My Bureaucracy point could also probably be put to better use in cutting through red tape with medical professionals, but I'd spend a point of Credit Rating if we can split it.

There are two separate spends here: one to locate the specialist (Library Use or Oral History), the other to get an appointment with him (Credit Rating + Bureaucracy). You can split the two different spends - one player can do the spend to find the specialist, another one the spend to get the appointment. You cannot split the points for the single spends (that is, you can't have one player produce the Credit Rating point and another produce the Bureaucracy point, or have one player put in a point of Library Use and another one point of Oral History).

If we're going to use Oral History to find the specialist (and I think we should. As Mr. Hardy said, Library Use is probably more useful) I can do the spend. Ian and Father Flanagan have postorints in Oral Hiy, but by the story point-of-view, it is just more plausible that Ian find a guy. If everybody agrees, I'll go with it IC.

Let's hold off on spending anything till after we go visiting Henslowe - I would think that having his name as a lead is the 'core clue' and any hidden meaning in the letters an additional clue - as we're (leaping ahead of myself) going to visit Henslowe we can ask him about the 'code/markings' - if that falls flat then we could look to get anything decoded.

For me, the points we ought to consider/investigate before heading off to Georgia
  • Who is Henslowe?
  • Henslowe mentions that he wrote everything down (re the event in 1924) - this sounds like something we really need to get hold of.
  • What happened and where in 1924 - if there were 'many death's' then it's possible that the event was reported in the papers.
  • Winston had medical help - his therapist might have info?
As a group we can look into some of those points before we fly off down south? It'd take our characters a couple of days to put their affairs in order - so would it be reasonable to take the next 2 days sorting things out and seeing what we can discover?

A lot of this can be done 'off camera'... perhaps Dr C and Father Flanagan check out the therapist, Prof C and Ian Morin check the newspaper records and Clarence Lanalor check out Henslowe?

Also... is this hanger now our base?

You have been given permission to use the hangar and its resources (books, maps, etc.) as you see fit. When you're ready to wrap things up in the hangar just tell me what you want to do next and I'll move things along ;)

Works for me. Ian could probably look at the newspaper archives for the deaths and also for Janet, Walter Winston and Douglas Henslowe, to see if anything comes up.

Other things:
- The Henslowe Flag Airport has anything to do with D. Henslowe? If yes, maybe the pilot know something?
- Someone with Library Use should probably take a look at the books here. It's unlikely that Janet put this room together just to receive the group. If it was already operational when Mr. Winston was an active occultist, maybe there's something to be found.

Good points, I like your thinking :)
