Anna goes over to Mitch.

"You okay? How frightening! Luckily for us those bats won't fly in daylight. Good work, by the way." And then to all: "Something awful has happened. One of the men has fallen to his death."

What happened? And did he fall?- says Percy still recovering from the situation

"It was Juan," says Anna, and she replies to Percy: "his fall must have been an accident, mustn't it?" A little calmer and thinking straight, she rushes to Juan.

Quinto looks up. It is about 80 feet to the top of the cenote. He throws it up once and it does not catch hold and falls back to the ground. As Quinto prepares to try again. You hear three gun shots from up above.

Anna looks over Juan's broken and lifeless body.

"Poor man," says Anna. She will close his eyes if needed and cross his arms. Any injuries besides the fall? The gunshots bang-out above. She looks upward, brow furrowed, feeling perplexed and frightened.

What is happening here?- says Percy. He prepares his weapon.

OOC:   Do we know if the help up there had guns?

Quinto looks alarmed. "If whoever has the gun should come after us..." he mutters to the others. "I'll check. Take cover just in case."

The explorer bravely tries securing the grappling hook again, and climbing.

"Oh, Quinn, do you think you should?" says Anna, rushing across from the dead man, unsure whether to crouch down or seek cover. "Let's shelter from gunshots in the lip of the cave, at least for half an hour?"

"Maybe it's some bandits. They aren't probably afraid of any local superstitions."- says Percy

"Good thinking, Miss Dahl," says David, ushering her into the cover of the cave mouth. "We can't wait them out indefinitely, though. Not only do we not have enough water, but those bats will come out at night. While Mexico is rampant with bandits and revolutionaries, I don't know why they'd bother with this place. Unless of course they know about it and came seeking treasure."

Anna takes cover.

"Bandits, Mr. Richmont?" asks Anna, "I hope to goodness not." She checks with David: "Like you said, they wouldn't bother us here, in the Yucatan, would they? The villagers . . ." she speculates.

Quinto pauses. "Alright, we'll wait a while."

You wait by the mouth of the cave. You can hear the bats further back in the cave moving about but after a short while the noise disappears.

After about thirty minutes, you don't hear anything else from up above. Quinto spots some movement from the opposite lip of the cenote. He thinks he sees someone walking around the lip but at this angle and distance he is not sure who it is.

Anna fervently scans up above with her binoculars, hoping to spot one of their men.

The figure steps closer to the edge of the cenote. Anna can see through her binoculars that it is Hernando. He is looking into the cenote. Anna notices that he has a rifle in his hands.
