At close examination, you don't see any protrusions. It just looks like stone.

"Strange," says David. He follows Anna back to the bat cave. "Are you all right, Miss Dahl?"

Quinto reluctantly follows the others into the bat cave.

"Yes, I think so," says Anna, "thank you for asking."

Percy follow the others to the cave.

You enter the cave again. There are the two passages to the bat chamber. One is more like a crawl space and the other you can walk up right through.

"We walked in last time?" said Anna. "Let's try crawling."

David looks up at the ceiling, trying to spot a natural chimney or some other way of reaching the surface.

Quinto, explorer

"Swell," snaps Quinto looking around the cave. "Guns above and bats below. This is last time I don't carry my pistol. Assuming get out of this pickle."

Concerned about the giant bats, the Spanish-American explorer steps back out. He lights a cigarette and wonders what set off Hernando. He decides there's no harm in asking. Quinto kneels down behind cover of vegetation and stelae so he can't be shot, then yells loudly in Spanish: "Hernado! Hernando buddy! What happened? Why are you keeping us down here? What do you know that we don't? I have 200 Americano dollars here for you. Let's talk!"

"There's a thought, Mr. Richmont," said Anna. "I wonder if those bats are carnivorous and, if so, would they eat the dead Juan?" she shivers at the idea. She sidles over to the cave's mouth to listen for any reply from Hernando to Quinn.

"Oh, I agree," she said hastily, "only, if it's Juan or us . . . well, which would you prefer?"

"Vampire bats get their name because they drink the blood of their prey," says David. "I don't think they care much where they get it, but there are so many of them I doubt they'll be satisfied with poor Juan. And it won't be safe to hide down here when they wake up. We need to find a way to get to the surface without being seen, before it gets dark."

"Considering that the bats would have to pass us to get to him," says David, "they'll surely go after us first. Unless...maybe there's some other cave down here that isn't infested with bats, somewhere we could hide when they go out to hunt."

"Is there anyway we could enter the crawled passage and fill it with rocks in both ways, so we could stay safe, and then get out when the new day starts?" - says Percy
